I have a small problem with turns... even after one 360 rotation, I get really dizzy. more than one rotation is impossible! is it just me and my crappy inner ear, or is there something I can do to keep from falling down with the spins? mad2 mad2 mad2

try spotting....its a technique used in dance, focus on something in front of you thats approx 1ft above eye level, then when you turn, flick your head round as quickly as you can.try to keep focus on your 'spot' for as long as possible during the turn, and then practice finding it again as quickly as possible.

should hopefully stop you getting so dizzy!x

i have this problem, i asked nick about it and he told me about the spotting stuff maus describes, and also after say spinning around 5 times anticlockwise do 1 clockwsie spin to help regain your balence, and i found that really helps. im still really wobbly though, but being dizzy is sometimes pretty good fun.

i have that prob too, but spotting is not always that easy.

i find if you focus on something that's spinning round with you, like your poi, rather than the backround whizzing round and round that tends to help.

You can conbine

90 Wheel plane to Wall plane

180 Wall to Wall and Wheel to Wheel plane(Foreward to

Backward)

360 Backward to Backward, Forward to Forward

and as oli sad is good when you balance the turns, so if you start Backward Wheel plane dont forget the path of your turns to get finally back where you start.

Hmmm...just tried doing it now and I find that I'm turning my head more towards the direction I'm turning to 'anticipate' where I'm going. That tends to smooth out my head movement instead of whipping my head round. I still get dizzy after about 2-3 turns but I wouldn't normally spin weave and turn for more than 360 or 540 degrees anyway.

Just me though. Some of you guys might be able to do it all day long and not get dizzy...lucky gits. tongue

Just practice spinning round in circles without your poi.

I find that spotting technique very difficult.

I prefer to focus on my hands which are turning with me and just kinda ignore the background that's spinning round.

Still get dizzy after about 5 spins or so. But if I then spin 5 times round the other way I don't feel dizzy at all.

Yeh I find spotting doesn't work for me either. I get more dizzy having to whip my head round fast enough to fix bac k on the spot. I used to do a bit of dancing and I've always had that problem!

I have the same problem, it causes me to puke on carnival rides too ubbloco
I never had any success using the spotting technique as I found it made my turns even jerkier than they already were so I'll chime in and lend my support to the immediately turn the other direction philosophy as it's the only one that's worked for me

dont focus on the background, focus on something moving at the same speed you are, ie hands

or you just keep your head still and level while you rotate and then when you stop, try and find something to focus on and just watch it until you're no longer dizzy

the fluid in your inner ear is there for balance and when you spin, it spins. When you stop, it keeps spinning but your eyes tell you you're not, so your brain gets confused and tells your body to sit down or you'll fall over!

Always use "so's your face" and "only on Tuesdays" in as many conversations possible

however, this can be remedied by practicing rotating smile

Well, one another helpfull thing is when you look straight or up, not down.
Try to make some footwork practise, like to put weight on one leg, and than try to make single "step and back" forward, backward, left and right. Try it with both legs.
Try tu turn on one leg too, to the left or to the right.

Poi will help you to find the cooordination, I swear smile

now I'm confused... if that's the case, then why would "spotting" help? you're still spinning your body around..?

While I was in egypt, I saw a guy spin himself round and round on the spot for about ten minutes no stop. And he walked in a straight line afterwards!! I was really impressed!

dizzyness results from several different factors. one can be what your brain percieves, one can be an inner ear balance issue, a combination of both, or other factors.

for some people if they focus on an object that is spinning with them, their brain will know that despite the shift they feel from the inner ear, they are not falling over, as they can see straight.

everyones different. just how it is.

with spotting you head is stationary for longer letting the fluid settle beforethe next spin, also it keeps your eyes level, and like (ironically) Imbalance said, it lets your brain know you arent falling on your ass

the thing about reading is the car is that after some time, the brain learns that the signals from the eye (i'm not moving) and the ear (i'm moving) does not correspond. and after that, you don't get dizzy
