Ok Im sitting here at the pootha listening to choppers over head and watching the bushfire creep closer and cloaser and closer to our house...
Its visiable over the back fence at the moment and we have taken video footage of all our valuables in the house so insiurance HAS to pay up cause we have proof of all our stuff, but we may have to hot foot it outta here VERY soon...
If anyone wants to contact us we will be staying at mums until its safe! Or you have our mobile

wow! that sounds scarey.
I saw it on telly last night and it looked pretty bad. Hope everything there is ok with you guys.

thanks guys.. they did an emergency backburn and got rid of all the scrub to try and keep it away from our houses... so there are only spot fires now... you should see the footage we got!

Chicken, that's amazing, this is almost exactly the thread I was going to post!! We spent Thursday night sitting on the roof watching the fires come over the atop of the ridge and rage down the hill towards Mitchelton... the house still smelt of smoke yesterday...
We are a few kms away though and in no direct danger (thank heavens the wind wasn't like it was on Saturday though) I know how close the bush comes right to your back fence though, much much scarier for you!!!
We assured Mrs Kyle (Miriam) that sitting on the roof with a beer watching the bushfires was an authentic Australian cultural experience...

I hope everything has cooled down! We had fires like that in Canberra a couple of years ago, there were only 3 houses left standing in my street and all the suburbs around were completely distroyed. We were lucky and only lost our garden, the fences and the front door! Twas scary at the time though, I think some people are still trying to recover.

Have you guys checked out fires in other parts of the world? ie idaho,montana usa. Did you guys dig your surrounding? I see the fire stopped at the fence.
