Is anyone else finding non-descriptive subject lines annoying as well... We've been talking about it in the "events" section but it seems to be getting a bit out of hand. Newbies will be newbies but it would certainly be nice if old and midtimers could title stuff so that those of us who only sign on occationally don't have to sift through stuff that doesn't pertain to us...

"Hey" or "Read this" or "Oh my lord..." or any event listed without a city/state/country really tells me nothing as to whether or not it pertains to me. I usually try to only read posts that I think I'd be interested in so please, help me make that decision. Most of these posts are great posts, just ambiguously titled.

Can we try to title stuff so that we can make better HoP surfing decisions?

Trying not to be sarcastic or bitter, (except in my subject line which is self reflective sarcasm within intentional irony)

Well done NYC for bringing this matter to the fore. I do find the lack of detail a bit annoying and it makes things soooo hard to search for.

As for anything which is posted with 'official' pretext on puts me right off reading it......and who has the right to make anything official around these boards anyhow? Other than our lovely Malcolm of course and the Mods

blah, blah, blah, critisise, complain, castigate!

Are we nearly there yet?

There was official Mug shot gallery and official Introductions (back in the day). and they were both started by Mistress Flash Fire.

They're the only ones I've ever considered as official.

I tend to ignore a lot of them.

I also (these days) ignore anything that mentions ice cream, Nutella or Marmite in the title.

Dunno Glass, I was thinkin' about starting two or three more identical threads (maybe under different categories) THEN bust out with the "Official" thread. You gotta make em WANT it.

THEN wait a week and bust out with the "Backlash against the Official thread" followed shortly by the "I have more testosterone than you thread" followed quickly by the "That's what's wrong with everyone from your country" thread.

Wait a day then:
"Why is everyone here a jerk?" thread and the "It used to be cool here until you all showed up" thread"

From there the posts pretty much go:
"Sparkly poi"
"Sparkly poi"
"Are there any hot guys here?"
"Colored flames"
"Coloured flames"
"Colered flames"
"Sparkly poi"
"CoLlErEd FlAmEs?!"
"What's a fountain?"
"Kewl new transition from forward weave to reverse weave"
"What's a fountain?!"
"What's wrong with America/Americans?"
"10 things I hate about America"
"George Bush Sucks"
"Iraq"
"Kool New Website!"
"Oh my GOD!"
"Help!"
"HELP!"
"WTF?!"
"WhErE CaN i BuY SoMe GlOwStIcKs?!?"
"Sparkly poi"
"Does anybody know where Rick from Brighton is?"
"Where are all of the old timers?"

But I don't want to give it all up... so the rest will be a surprise (hint: more sparkly poi)

[After rereading my post I have decided to go out and get a drink... probably a good idea. ]

Well, shall we go?

People just need to be reminded now and then of the preferred ettiquette of HoP.

What gets me is that you all like to have a whinge and moan now and then about the status quo, but whenever active moderation of the boards becomes really obvious, many of you like to jump up and yell about free speech and democracy and stuff.

Unless we have more controlling moderation, you just gonna have to get used to these cycles.

People are tidal. They have to live in a cyclic fashion or they're going against their natural urges.

What we need to do is ban the full mooon. Then everyone would be fine. Just have a half moon all the while.

Problem solved. Nuff said.

NYC - that was some funny posting right there!

Summed up the reason I lurk more than post and read half of what I used to.

I love that there are heaps of new people here and welcome their input, but reading the same stuff all the time is getting old. I sometimes now just search for my name so that I can respond to people.

That said, I busted out my poi on the weekend and a friend and I were learnin' some new people how to play.

one of the things that you all forget is that once you were fresh faced and delighted at finding a new "COOL" website that dealt with the new toy that you had, poi staff, and you could ask all those questions that you wanted to know!
it is not new faces that have the problem but merly the fact that they need direction to the right place for there wants! with the borads changing so fast and HOP now having a redicusuous amount of achieved meterial on repeated topics maybe a section should be easily pointed out to the young and uninitiated to help nthem stream into the HOP site and note be looked on as minuor anoyences. maybe a search engine for privious topic headings?
going back though to the origanal point that NYC made though, you have to properly name the topic. maybe a few clear concise rules should be posted, or not rules so much as etikets that should be followed. they could be permently sowen around the site so that you are constantly reminded. because it is not just the new, but also the old that make the mistakes!!

What you don't know won't hurt you? well i intend to get to know as much as possible so that i can make sure no one else has to so they carn't get hurt.

(Reason #24523 why I'm glad I live in New York: Furthest geographical location from Flash Fire. )

I don't know if I'd call the "Site Guide" as "Clear as Day" considering it's one of the smallest buttons on the front page.

I think in order to register you should have to pass a small pop quiz.

Dude - it's the same size as EVERY OTHER BUTTON at the top of the page, including discussion group, pictures, lessons etc.

Want me to catch a plane over there and point it out to you?

A) Flash: Heck yeah I want you to catch a plane and point it out to me! But only after you've made me some pie. Preferably pecan. Actually, I'm kind of in the mood for a citrus/vodka drink, so that'll do if you can't bake me some pie... at least buy me a drink.

2) Why would a newbie EVER click on "site guide"? IF it ever becomes a problem, which I don't think it has, I think that perhaps hitting newbies when they register would help out.

c) By posting this post I think most of the vets who care got the point, which is all I could really hope for.

IV) Kyri: "you'd think he'd have something good to say"... You'd THINK right? Thanks for the sentiment anyway.
