At the moment, there is a big applying frenzy that year 12s are going through i.e applying for universities, putting in their course preferences, applying for accomodation on campus, applying for scholarships etc.

At the moment I am applying for accomodation...the only thing is, you get one chance and you can't go back and change your answers. I'm not a fantastic writer, especially when it comes to putting yourself out there.

Please take the time to tell us more about yourself, why you have selected Menzies College, and what contribution you could make to the College during your stay. (Up to 500 words)

Any tips? Hints? Suggestions? Thanks so much.

Ugh this is so stressful.

I'm just wondering what the hell your contributions to the college has to do with you getting a room there...they seriously gonna say 'We're not giving you a room because we don't think you'll contribute enough'?

Well, since i don't know you, I'd put down the only thing we all have in common, spinning/twirling. If they have a juggling society or whatever, say that you'll bring variety and life to the society (name some other interests and societies as well because Uni's and Colleges like more social and well-rounded people)

I can't give you specifics because honestly, i'm not familiar with what Australian colleges usually look for.

Hope that helps a little bit in terms of content, but apart from that, just sell yourself! (not literally of course biggrin)

Owch.

We just have a 3cm box (optional) asking us why we wanted to be in the college we want to be in. (I wrote "Because it's quiet, and has an internet connection in every room")

"What will you contribute" sounds like a bloody stupid question, if you don't mind me saying so. I'd go with Seraph here, and say spinning. And whatever social activities you like as well.

hug Cos I'm going through exactly the same stress wink

After much consideration, I find that the view is worth the asphyxiation.

I may disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

menzies college......bob menzies.....he went to monash. so you wouldnt be going to monash, would you? (i have a funny feeling you have already told me this)

dont know what to say about what to write, but Im start my firsst year at monash next year! woo!

by the way, apply for scholarships EARLY! i made the mistake of studying too much to apply for an early one. THEN (after studying so much to give me such a good score) i got a good enough score and applied for second rounds and missed out.
DONT DO WHAT I DID!!!!

i would have changed ***** to phallus, and claire to petey Petey

Rougie: but that's what I'm doing here
Arnwyn: what letting me adjust myself in your room?..don't you dare quote that on HoP...

I recommend you ask a good friend or someone who knows you well. They'll be able to help you see the good qualities that you have and how those qualities can be represented as things that you can contribute to the college.

Also ask around to see if you know anyone who's good at putting things eloquently. I did that for a scholarship application 2 years ago (I asked my then-boyfriend) and he turned my mediocre answers into eloquently expressed reasons why they should give me one of the available scholarships. Well it worked - I got it.

Good luck hug, I hope that helps. If you give us more info about yourself we may be able to help you more. Or if you put down rough content that you want to include you might be lucky enough to have someone "up the eloquence factor of it". Can't promise anything personally though - at the moment I'm lucky to have the time to come here once month, if that. frown

May I suggest that campus' accomodation hate anything to do with fire!! So whether you put it or not could effect you either way.

When I was applying for accomodation it depended on how far away you lived, not that they included the Solent as a difficulty. I know its hard deciding on what answers to put, but Im sure (and hope) that it all works out, as halls will be the wildest yr of your life!!!WOOHOOO!!!!

You'll find me on the dance floor
