I remember reading a post where someone was saying how they were worried about "Trancing Out" They were saying that it's like forgetting that your spinning and everything goes really weird. Well it happens to me! and I was just wondering how common it is. I'll be spinning and going really good then everything seems kinda weird like nothing is in focus and you don't even need to think about what your doing, but then when it happens and you really think about how weird it is you freak out and stop spinning right and you mess up.

If I'm spinning to music I really really like that will happen. I'll get caught up in the song and everything else kind of fades off in the background. When the tracks over I'm forced back into reality and than I'll usually just sit there doing a butterfly for a while until the shock wears off. I think I'm at my best spinning wise in that "trance" mode, I don't think about what I can't do, I just do what I feel like.

It can happen to me if I'm not spinning fire, but it's not nearly as disastrous, then. Worse comes to worse, I suddenly snap out of it and wack myself or throw a poi. Ok, no big woop. It's just a tennis ball or a glowstick, right? Worst case scenario: "OW! Fuck!" and then I have a bruise.

But when I'm performing with fire, I never lose my awareness of the audience or of the fact that I have two burning wicks screaming around in circles that pass very close to me. When I'm spinning fire, I'm "hyper-aware" of everything going on around me. The advantage is that I've never had a serious accident while spinning fire :::knock on wood:::. The disadvantage is that it does tend to cramp my style a bit. I can pull moves without fire that I just can't do with fire.

I had a topic like that before called Just me?
You might want to check that. But i believe that "trancing out" is more of a gift than a curse. It's more of a meditation...a way of letting your soul express itself, not just your mind and body.

I need to find something witty for this so people like me...

I sometimes laugh when I screw up a move but my muscle memory will kick it into a move that I had no intention of getting into. I guess that's as close to "trancing out" as I get. I've been saving crash-and-burn type screwups much more often.

"Oh crap! How'd I get into a reverse weave?!"

I don't think I'll really be able to let myself go because most of my messups are when I get lazy, like when I don't get an arm up high enough as I know I should or get a hand back quick enough...

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

I trance out all the time. my world goes blurry and Im nothing but motion. Im not even aware of my strings, just moving to the music. I usually wake up when I turn to early or to late, and something silly, and I get smacked in the eye. and my still spinning world comes back into focus and I realize Im in a room full of people and not alone anymore

I smell something burning.

i trance out constantly
not just when spinning.
anywhere
it's either when i think about something else or i think of nothing at all (i voted 'yes' on the spinning as meditation poll) and my body goes into "auto mode".
it's great for spinning (or doing anything for that matter) because you're not thinkin, just doing. when you over-think shit, you mess up. that's why you ususally mess up when you snap back, cuz yer thinking again all of a sudden.

sucks for reading though. i can read like 3 pages before i notice i was thinking about something else and none of it absorbed at all.
*sigh* i find it happens more with avid drug use.
