you don't need to buy poi to start with,it's a lot cheaper and easier to make them, just buy two juggling or tennis balls and put them into a long pair of socks,(personally i still prefer to practise moves with the trusty sock poi,and most others will agree!)
swing em round ya head, and voila! you are officially learning poi!
welcometo HoP! HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR STAY!
Also,as a general rule in intro threads fellow hoppers will want to know as much random info about you as poss so get typin honey!
you may want to post in the meet others forum,so you can find others in your area!
Good luck¬!

Or if you dont like sock poi, buy a short dog leesh (like jack russel length) and clip a persil washing table net onto them and put some tenis balls or some sort of strong glowing/type ball in the net for night spinning)

Very easy to replace if the net ever tears, but there strong so they prob wont for a long time. You can add tails on the end if you like (ribbons or something) to customize it, 2 tails each poi looks very good, up to 5 looks great but maybie after 5 it may get a little awkward :P
