That came out pretty well considering we were forced to shoot on a pretty rainy evening (thank goodness for bandstands biggrin)

Bearing in mind the early nature of the prototypes these things totally blew me away- incredibly bright (much, much more so than the vid suggests) and really nice to spin if scary considering the unique nature of the units (ie they are the only 2 in existence).

The futures looking very bright for glow poi equipment biggrin

Very nice. That sock idea worked out really well.

Nice spinning there Mr Chutney.

Cost.. don't know - depends on a lot of things.

How long.. I probably started thinking about the very basics about a year ago i guess.

How many pairs for Falmouth.. Probably just the one. They're not in the least bit cheap (yet) frown For the parts alone, they cost something in the region of £50 for a set! I have cunning plans to make them much cheaper, more compact, and quite importantly, more robust! They're in a relatively fragile form at the moment...

They're not actually socks - cones of rip-stop nylon in fact, but close enough wink

one comment.. iperhaps the nylons were preventing it from being uber bright and tracing (but that will be the effect fo pretty much any casing I think), but I think you should maybe change the timing on some of the effects.. because ti looks like you have to spin REALLY fast to get the effect as designed.. like the strobe or color blip... because when s[pun fast you can see the changes clearly, but otherwise it just kinda happened so quick you could really tell..

The effect is more pronounced in person - the vid doesn't capture it quite right ...I do however intend to make things a little slower and space out the patterns so that you can appreciate them a bit more!

If you check out how far down the nylon the camera's still saturated (shows up white not coloured) you'll get an idea of how bright these things are - i.e. very wink

Top job!

I know this may be a real bad query but i was just wondering if it would be possible to create diffrent settings like a tempo switch, plus how flexible/expensive as those fibre optic tube thingys as could the reproduce a lil bit of light up near the hands as well?

tempo switch? You mean to adjust how fast the patterns whizz past? That should be a doddle IMHO - they should be pretty flexible by the time they reach production.. if they reach production wink

There's no fibre optics in there, the lights just shine on some tough fabric. I've been thinking about looking into lenses to focus the light up towards the top a little more - just need some more time! The fabric used in that vid was on the long side - Mark 2 will have much a much shorter length. I want to be able to do isolations and hyperloops and everything... but I have short arms, so they've got to get shorter smile

The fabric certainly could be.. the optics probably wouldn't. If people had an idea of how long they want their poi, different optics would give the optimum light output for a given length. I guess you could even have different optics depending on how long your fabric is!
