it's like the question of why do kamekazi(sp?) pilots wear helmets?

We are the music makers, We are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams;
We are the movers and shakers of the world for ever, it seems.

I dont see how you could get a public intoxication ticket inside of a bar...the very place that you go to drink...

Yes, but TX also has a law that says we can't have any open containers in the inside of our vehicles. So, even though we can buy liquour at a drive through place (only in certain counties, by the way), it is illegal for us to open them.

The law also means that if we are transporting a bottle of vodka that has been opened, we must put it in the trunk of our car.

it is both possible to buy non alcoholic drinks at most bars, or to drink an amount below the legal limit. Plus the staff need somewhere to park

Almost if not all states I've been to have open container laws. And I've heard (though it's just a rumor) that if you have the seats that fold down, so theoretically you could get the bottle out of the trunk, you could still be busted.

we call it dipping. Drunk in Public. I don't think it's against the law in England, so you probably don't have any.

You obviously live somewhere which has a bus service. I use buses all the time in London, they're great. Where I live now in Coventry i uses buses to and from work, but their service goes to crap after about 8pm and a lot of routes arn't covered. Where I used to live in West Sussex there was one bus every 1.5 hours on a weekday, the last at 6pm. On a saturday it was about 1 every 2 hours, no service at all on a sunday.

indeed, but i don't think people's attitudes are going to change unless public transport is a real alternative as opposed to what is in most areas of the UK; a farce.
