So here I am again. It's been a while hasn't it. My alto sax initially got a lot of use. Funny isn't it, how a fulltime job takes away all your spare time. Haven't had any time to poi too, apart from Jugglejam on Mondays and the monthly Moonfests. And even then, it somehow seems I tend to play with the stockwhip instead of poi shrug

Another lens has been added to the stable too. A Canon EF-S 10-22 3.5-4.5.. nice and wiide. But it all boils back down to that time issue. Despite having the new lens, I seem to find I'm out taking less pictures.. the folio hasn't been updated in a while, and I'm starting to get the horrible feeling I'm stagnating. Must. Get out of this rut.

If you're my muse and reading this, inspiration needed now. hug

-Edited 14 Dec 2005-

I liken this to opening the fridge to find that jar of misc what's it, several months expired ubblol. Hey how's it going? wave

So what's new! Well.. poi's getting a bit better for one thing. Nice how after poi-ing for a while, you stop hitting yourself senseless. In fact, one might argue how after a certain point, each hit puts more sense into you.. wink Haven't gone skating or rockclimbing in a bit, but that's ok- life's full of wonderful distractions, and really, you can only do a couple at a time.

University's just wrapped up! Yep. A degree in art & visual culture, television & digital media.. Just waiting for a piece of paper at the moment (yay!). And trying to sort out how Australia will let me live here forever and ever biggrin. Have I mentioned how wonderful it is, you so ought to visit *nudge* wink Also been getting out the with photography and stuff- a couple of projects to follow up on, blue skies and puffy clouds as far as I can see.

Updates updates. [insert geek] I've updated my camera gear too.. my 20D, 17-85 4-5.6 IS and 580EX now have a 70-200 2.8L IS to play with.. soon too, riding on getting a particular gig, either a 350D and a 24-105 f4 IS, or another 20D.. -grin- [/end geek]

[edit 14/12/05: Gig didn't go through, and ended up performing at it instead of shooting it ubblol Life has a funny way of messing you about doesn't it.. so no 2nd body for me just yet, or nice 24-105 f4 IS redface]

Been taking lots of photos lately. I think there's something intrinsically beautiful in capturing moments- you know how you look at a photo and it brings you back to where you were that day, who you were with, how the air smelt even.. Maybe one day I'll get to exhibit ubblove.. but yeah.. lots of work to be done meantime.

Hmmmm.. yes the world's beautiful today. It's good to have new toys, new moves, new direction.. old friends hug.. a best friend hug2, and enough distractions not to get bored for too long.

Btw.. favourite words haven't changed.. ubbrollsmile And mm.. I'm still not too close to balletic, and dulcet..

Hmm.. la la la laaa squawk.. footinmouth

[edit 14/12/05: I now have a beautiful alto saxophone- the best use of which I have thus far found, is to attract ducks and other misc waterfowl]

Yep, how about we say still aspiring. biggrin

Hope all's well with everyone- don't be strangers now! hug biggrin

I've been exploring this site a bit lately, and have decided everyone seems like a nice bunch- thought it's about time I said hello. Ryan, 24, born in Singapore, but Brisbane Australia has been home to me for the past 3 years.

I love photography, playing the guitar (if one took a picture of me with my guitar, it looks like I'm playing it- does that count?), getting from point A to B on my trusty mountain bike, inline skating and hockey, occasionally rockclimbing, and just being in good company. I'd also like to add poiing to the list when I stop hitting myself senseless.

Irrelevantly, my two favourite words (I've got heaps if anyone's interested) are 'balletic' and 'dulcet'. 'Balletic', unfortunately, isn't a word I'd use to describe anything I can do, and 'dulcet' is a word I haven't dreamt of aspiring towards yet.

Enough for now, don't be strangers! biggrin

Dear Diary,

I've just had the same song playing into my earphones for the past 2 and a half hours. Thought it was worth a mention. (kitten what have you done to me ubbcrying hug)

Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek
https://aurgasm.us/2005/10/aurgasm-interview-imogen-heap.html

Been playing online poker because I'm not tired enough to sleep, and this song's been repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating..

Last time a song had close to that effect on me, it was Halou's Ratio of Freckles to Stars, and I gave it more than a few good listens, but not this much..

Before that, there was Mandalay's This Life, which I still love..

And before that, it was a few years ago with Bjork's All is Full of Love and waking up to it every day for a month ish..

*sigh*

All is well in the world tonight. ubblove

All's pretty alright today. Not feeling very rested from some lousy sleep- you know days you go to bed really tired, and somehow *still* not manage to sleep? Must fix it soon.

How are the whips going? Puk lent gita a whip, which I stole off her- I've been going through lots of yarn making poppers- will need to find some horsehair or nylon at least. I actually heard that silk braid makes a very loud crack. I'm actually tempted to use some of my kevlar thread to make a kevlar popper.. how does that sound! biggrin hug

I just saw your video!

Wow, you are amazing. So graceful. And what a beautiful location too!

I was very impressed with the array of moves you can do, and how fluidly you go from one to another. You really have an elegance to your movement, very lyrical. Inspired me to try some different things with fire tonight, be a little braver...

Wont catch me doing your lovely hyperloops, and little twisty tangles, but I did do my very first spiral wrist wrap/unwrap on fire! It was cool...

Only constructive critisism to offer is to have a little more light so I vcan see more of your gorgeousness, and maybe a bit more tempo change. You could play with more contrasting dynamics, or just let yourself go- sometime when you are not on a narrow boardwalk though! I would love to see you move through space, explore more levels.

Overall, I just cant get over how amazingly good you are, with so many differnt types of moves. Wow. Wow.

I found the song too dull though, but maybe that is just personal preference. I will try and watch again with different music, just out of curiousity. Sometimes that really changes the feel of things.

Glad to finally see you. You are an inspiration!

I am about to go into a month of daily yoga training and nightly fire poi, so good to have a vision to work with. In a month, I want to be just like you ;-)

Jean: Figures.. so you think you accidentally sent out a bunch of garden gnomes? ubblol They do look a bit pixie like.. though it looks like they're a bit hmm.. spaced out? ubbangel

Sat them down for a meal and they did seem to get a bit better. I've cleared some space on my bed, and they're all sleeping together in a nest of pillows. I should be careful not to wake them sneaking in..

*awaits more restful sleep faeries* hug Don't forget to keep a couple for yourself, what with the little gremlin and all. You probably deserve a bit of rest yourself you know.. wink

Andrea: Thanks so much for your lovely comments!! hug Graceful.. *sigh* If there was a word to describe where I want to be at, that's pretty much the one. I've got a bit to go though. During practice I seriously keep hitting myself too often. Trying to incorporate more dynamic and non-typical poi into my style, but it's proving painful so far. I'm really glad you liked it and found something in it.. hug

Congrats on your wrist wrap on fire too btw! That's such a Nick thing to do though wink He does it so easily that fella..

mm the music isn't my favourite Halou track, though I love how it begins, with the 'breath' bit. I've got a couple of tracks I really want to make a video too, but you know how sometimes you have such an amazing song that you want to save it for a really special twirl?

Boobs. Yeah. I've always been a bit flat chested. I'm okay with it now though- I save heaps on lingerie. Although. I often have to make sure I wear dark colours so nothing goes on show when it shouldn't wink.

Mm. Yeah. Haven't met Andy, but Nick does go on about him.. I'm guessing he musn't be too bad.. Nick does do that move a bit I noticed- and very well too. I occasionally do the stall tap the other way thing, but seldom the spiral thing though.

Though. I figured out this one thing which left me pretty chuffed. You can do a spiral thing, but break it up-

1. the left poi spirals around only your left hand.

2. the right poi spirals around only your left wrist.

3. take your right hand, let go of the right poi while the two are mid spiral, and move it behind your waist, and grab the handle of the right poi, which should be dangling down slightly.

4. at the end of the spiral, turn you body 180 to face the other way.

5. as you are turning, unwrap your spiral behind you, and it unwraps, in a spiral, into a behind the back weave (or if you give it another 90, it unwraps into a waistwrap)!!

biggrin

methinks a slight contradiction? ubblol

i actually find the reverse easier - go from a btb waist wrap to catching on the frontside - though not with the extra hand wrap *runs off to try*
