Posted:Do you ever get the feeling something is gonna wrong, but you ignore it thinkung "Nah, it'll probably be ok" only to find later that you were right in the first place and everything has gone horribly wrong!

I was on an expedition with some mates across the Lake District and thought it would be cool to take along my pois for evening entertainment. Now obviously I cant lug a 5l bottle of paraffin around LD so I filled a large Kenco pot (about one litre) with added bonus that the opening is the same size as my poi heads - easy dipping.

Well you can probably imagine what went wrong! Didn't do it the first night cos we were camping right by a river and there were millions of midges (I hadnt noticed anything at this stage), so I was gonna do it the following night...yeah right! All the paraffin had leaked out of the pot (it did look water tight before) and drenched my sleeping bag, I was smelling quite inflammable the next morning as the entire camp site stuck to high heaven of fuel!

One good thing did rise from the ashes of my self-pity: on the last night I gathered everyones Meths together (cos we wouldn't be cooking anymore) which was about a pint and managed to put a show and found Meths is actually pretty good, I think it lit quicker and lasted longer the paraffin (or they could be about the same and I just imagined it)

But anyway, thats my story of woe, anyone else?

umm

You silly person using a kenco jar!

Why would it be watertigh?
Its meant to hold coffee granules, which, by design, are solids.
So they wont be leaking out of the jar unless its a *really* hot day and everything melts.

The jar looked water-tight! It had a pad type thing in the lid that presses down on the rim.

anyway ive ben using a coffee pot for, well over 2 months and it has never leaked. however the official 4l parafin bottle did. how does that figure.

oh and back to the origonal, yea i had a bad feeling somthing was wrong, but couldn't figure what it was so i ignored it,. an hour later i went into the kitchen and found the light bulb was dripping water on to the floor... huuuummmmm i thought, thats not normal and surely not safe that being water and lecky and all and me standin in a puddle.
to cut the long story short, i went upstairs where i found that i had left a tap on when i had had a wash and the sink was overflowing and the bathroom was flooded and was running through the floor into the kitchen. well done me! ooooops

ive learned
life is tough... but im tougher
