Posted:ok first of let me just state im not against christmas for any kind of religious reason, i just the holidays. everyone acts nice, not because they are nice, but "becasue its the holidays" and then right after new years, they go back to being rude and nasty......then theres the bother of EVERYONE asking me what i want for christmas. i hate that question, i never know, hell i realy dont want any thing, im not real fond of geting gifts, i feel selfish for it, and you cant tell them that you dont want any thing, becasue theyll go out and get something, thinking they know you, and its nothing that you like........ then theres geting things for others, i dont care about spending money to buy things for my friends and family, but i never know what to get them......<sigh>......the only thing i like about this holiday is look on my daughters face christmas morning, but still all this srtess leading up to ONE DAY? it just doesnt seem sane.........ok my rant is over, any one else feel like this, or am i just a freak (grasshoppah dont answer that one) wink

Posted:Fryed Fish, I agree with you 100% (well, except I don't have a daughter). I feel EXACTLY the same way.

So if you're a freak, there's a pair of us. Don't tell; they'd banish us, you know.

I used to celebrate Christmas Eve by overeating all my favorite foods, and watching horror movies and porn while drinking an entire bottle of Bujolais Nuveau by myself (only way I could drink much of anythin, Christmas Eve). Then Christmas Day would be a hangover, which I found nicely distracting.

That's years ago. These days I just enjoy the alone time and write music and stuff.

Posted:Well, I kinda like Christmas but I can see your point.

If you don't want people to get you a gift just for the sake of a gift then give them the name of a charity and ask them to donate the money that they would have spent.

Posted:A few years ago when I lived in a shared rented house instead of getting each other presents we used to do a lucky dip. Each person would go out and spend 20 or less on items (mostly odd, strange or embarrassing). We would each gift wrap our items and then stick a raffle ticket on them. Some of the items were just empty boxes with forfiets written in them. On the house Christmas day (boxing day, because we all went home or elsewhere on christmas day) you had to pick a number out of a hat and then you got the 'gift' with that number on it. We used to have a house full of friends and family and they would all bring lucky dip presents too. It was a laugh. My dad got a lovely lacy red suspend belt one year and some lip balm, odd combination but it gave us all a giggle. Imagine the Buster Merryfield (uncle Albert, 'Only fools and horses') modelling said garment and you'll have a pretty fair picture of what my dad looked like that day. The forfiets ranged from having to be barperson for the day to swapping your clothes with someone.

Christmas doesn't have to be all about big presents and spending cash. We used to have a great day just being with all the friends and family members and all it cost us was food, drink and 20 for lucky dip.

Posted:my family was pretty broke last christmas (having to pay for two funerals will do it every time!) so we did a $5 christmas! biggrin considering we were only allowed to spend $5 on each person, we had to be very creative! ubblol and we couldn't combine presents or get someone else to buy them! which was a clause added by my mum cos he would always just go with whatever mum got everyone (you know, the presents 'from mum & dad'). it was really funny and there were some very odd presents!! ubblol

Posted:I like Christmas cos I get to see my cousins. Ok, so most of them give me the shytes, but there are a few I am really close with, and I only get to see them at Chrissy.

This year, however, it's just me, my folks, and my grandparents...so I'm not looking forward to it as much...which means I'm hoping that I will get some presents to entertain me for the day while I'm being bored as hell! ubblol

Posted:well, for me xmas hasn't always been the best ever. Every xmas i go to the east coast to visit my dad and his side of the family, whom i usually only see for a week or two over summer and for a week at xmas. All my cousins are younger than me and do that whole looking up to me thing, which all my aunts, uncles, and grandma hate... mainly cause since my parents got divorced 8 or 9 years ago, my mom has been very disliked among my dad's side. For a long time they all didn't like me too much cause i was the rebellious kid with the mom who understood me whereas all of them raise their kids army-style. They all had this subtle sort of scorn for me.

During xmas though they're all cheery and nice, but it's so fake it... it makes baby jesus cry. Maybe it wouldn't seem so fake if the walls weren't so thin and i couldn't actually hear them talking about me. Lately though i've just learned how to deal with it, so i go there, try to enjoy myself, etc. It's a good thing i have my sis goin with me though, she's 4 years older than me and when they start up with their [censored] about us, we have each other to laugh at them with.

It's almost become a game of some sort now, doing certain things and watching their reactions. I'm the only one of the family that never got straight A's, so last year i brought a bunch of print outs of my grades from all my classes and had my dad put them all in a big frame and put it up on the wall. Yeah, my dad's a great guy and laughs with me when i mess with his/my relatives.

So i guess overall i don't have too bad of a time, but... it's certainly not through the cliche "christmas spirit/everyone loves each other" that i draw that entertainment from.

Clean for 6 months and counting... ah yeah, that's nice.

Posted:Let's just say that my favorite Christmas movie is The Lion in Winter. It reminds me of my family Christmases growing up, except that in the movie people are more polite while they're backstabbing, betraying, and torturing each other.
