okay i have been looking at the wicked sideshow arts, and i have an idea for art and performance.
i want to sick shark or heavey fish hooks in me and so and so forth. i i gave you more of an idea of what i am doing someone MIGHT copy it.
im not saying that HOP has people who copy ideas im saying i havent copy righted it yet. mKAY
okay for the people who know how to enjure fish hook piercings tell me how?
1) which hooks
2)the hooks are meatal so which metal hook should i get.

Not a good plan fella
Fiah hooks are generally barbed so they go in ok but no hence used for catching things.
Good luck tho seen a vid of someone hanging themselves by the shoulder blades with 2 foot long hooks about 1-2cm diameter

This is something that I have seen pictures of but is definately something that I wouldnt like to try myself
It tends to be done with larger hooks and as one of the above posts says you definately want barbless hooks else you aint getting the little buggers out!!
Basically what I am trying to say is I really dont recomend that you try this without expert tuition and even then I wouldnt go near it with a barge pole - I can only just about cope with needles for giving blood and you dont stick them in yourself

Ok, health talk:
If you're going to do it, the parts that are going to poke you need to be sterile, so here's the drill:
You will need:
The hooks
A pair of foreceps
A candle
Sterile gauze and cotton balls
70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol
Hydrogen peroxide or iodine (iodine is better, but it leaves yellow stains)
TO BE SURE THAT YOUR $%@# TETANUS SHOTS ARE UP TO DATE!!!!!!!!!!
1) Go and get some sterile gauze. Lay it out a few layers thick on a clean table.
2) Take the hook and hold it in the candle flame using forceps for about 30 seconds. The hook will be damned hot.
3) Carefully put the hook on the sterile gauze to cool.
4) Before you put the hook in, wipe it off well with the alcohol. Then rub the skin where the hook will go with iodine or peroxide for about 30 seconds. Once you've done that, then put the hook in. If someone coughs or sneezes at any point during the procedure (especially near the gauze pad) you get to start at step 1 again. Also, it has to be done inside where you won't have random dirt and microbes blowing onto your equipment.
5) Do some anatomy research before you start poking yourself with hooks. You have a lot of nerves that run inside your muscles and pretty close under the skin. Pierce one and you'll lose all nervous supply to part of your body. It might be temporary...or it might not
6) Understand that these safety precautions still cannot guarantee that you will escape uninjured. Even with flaming the hooks first, there is always a risk of infection. It is important to care for the wounds after you take the hooks out by rubbing them with more peroxide or iodine and then covering them with bandages and some anti-bacterial ointment (neosporin). Anyone working with you needs to be wearing latex gloves so as to avoid blood contact. And I'd recommend you get an HIV test before you start this to make sure that your blood is clean.

* Don't forget to wipe yourself down properly so your skin is all clean too.
* Don't do this to close to the crowd as you could get all sorts of diseases by having open skin exposed to lots and lots of people.
* Check your local laws about obscene behaviour in a public place, you could be get a hefty fine or be even be jailed!
* Don't believe any single person about how to do this sort of thing. Research it lots, using as many different opinions and groups as you can. DON'T rely on the internet or BB for advice on how to this sort of thing. People quite often make things up as they go on the net, even if they mean well.
* Be aware, if something goes wrong, you may not be entitled to claim on health insurance/free public healthcare as it will be classed as 'self-inflicted'.
* Make sure you have liability insurance if anyone faints. They could be trampled, pickpocketed or possibly even abused. With high-revulsion factor acts, this is a bigger worry than most people think.
* Be aware of how this act could affect young children in the audience. Make steps to ensure guardians are always present and that the audience is made up of a more adult persuasion.

Charles, as far as health insurance goes in New Zealand, what is considered "self-inflicted"? Is a skiing accident covered, for example?

It depends on the policy and compnay of course, and our medical policies aren't in same style at all as American policies.
However, any deliberate causing of wounds, where you know you will be injured, is classed as self-inflicted.
So, if you push a hook into your skin, that is deliberate, rather than tightrope walking over hooks, where a fall would be accidental.
But following on from that is any complications that arise from the deliberate injury, such as infection or nerve problems. Despite them being 'accidental', if they are easily traceable to the deliberate injury then they are also classed as self-inflicted...
Does that make sense?

Have you read Modern Primitives, or any of Fakir's background and how he got started in suspensions etc? It's certainly not as easy as just sticking a hook into you.....
I remember a while back, someone (sorry mate, forgot who) shared some of their suspension photos - they were amazing.
Good luck, I for one think suspensions are very powerful transformative tools (for the individual performing, and sometimes for those watching) and can be very beautiful.

If you are seriously considering this, then perhaps your next step is to get in contact with someone who has actually done it, as suspension via hooks requires several years of tolerance build up and is usually done with PEIRCING ie: body peircing equiptment and at least two doctors prescent to peirce you at the time of suspension. this is not somehting you should be doing alone.
I remember seeing a video of NINE ppl being suspended at one time on a revolving mobile some 15 metres up in the air, they had a time limit of an hour suspended, because anything longer than that, or much likely less than that, puts the body into shock and there is a severe risk of death. You reading that? i said death. The body is not made to handle shock in extreme situations where it is by choice, you will need to learn some form of meditation and breathing relaxation techniques.
note: the people who were suspended the longest, ie: an hour, were the people that had done suspension before, Maximum time recommended for a newbie is TEN MINUTES MAX>
The only other person who i know who has ever done this publically, is Jim Rose, of Jim Rose's Circus fame. he has an excellent website, you can probably find it easily if you do a google search for it... And make sure that you have plenty of ppl around you and a doctor if you plan to attempt this.

I've seen what I think you're thinking about, and a lot more. Go to a specialist piercing place (not your normal high street piercing studio, but real specialists who do implants and such) and discuss it with them.
