Posted:I woke up the other morning (Tuesday, I think it was) and everything seemed normal, until I properly woke up to realise that I was unable to hear with my left ear! eek

Its not a complete loss of hearing, more the sort you get when your head is underwater, only more muffled! I have been hoping that its been an infection or something similar that is going to clear up, but that seems less likely at the moment, I'm off to the doctor in the morning to see if theres anything that can be done, and to try and find out what's actually wrong!

I think I've had one of the most surreal weeks of my life this week, everything sounds as if its in a different place as I'm only hearing it with one ear, I'm finding I really have to concentrate to hear what people are saying to me, music sounds flat and uninspiring, the whole world in general, sounds as if its off balance and out of place!

It has, however, given me a massive insight in to how people with hearing disabilities have to go about their daily lives. Unfortunately, at the moment, thats a small consolation! frown

Posted:1) Try a few days of a decongestant.

2) These almost always go away eventually.

3) Feel better! hug

Posted:Thanks Lightning, I was kinda expecting that it might go away, but having gone on for nearly a week, I was beginning to get a little concerned (to put it mildly)

On the bright side, its been a great excuse to shout at people! biggrin

Posted:Yes, I've had that happen too - also wax build-up. I went to a doctor and she told me this:
(this is assuming that it is a wax issue)
(1. Buy yourself an enima(I know this sounds weird but trust me).
(2. Fill the enima up with water as hot as you can stand
(3. Shoot the hot water into your ear with a fair amount of force - this should dislodge the wax and may hurt a little, but it has worked for me in the past:)

Posted:Go get your ear syringed - it's great fun... You have to soften if with eardrops for a few days, but then they have a special machine which kind of vibrates warm water into your ear and flushes out all the wax... it's kind of strange, but not unpleasant. And afterwards you can hear an ant walking a mile away. It's great biggrin
