I haven't done french for ages. I brushed up on it a bit before meeting Cassandra last month but she turned out to be australian so it was all wasted.

Is one of them The Green Berets?

Posted:hmmmm.... well to translate stuff i go to Altavista - World/Translate (babel fish)

it helps me out a lot... but you have to make sure you have the spelling and everything perfect... along with the accented letters. ^.^ hope that's of some help to you.

I wish I could think of some of the funnier translations off the top of my head right now.

Posted:Mon cher Sunspot,

Usually Cassandra picks up faster than me on threads involving French, but she must have been out sick today.

The only one I know is:
L'insoutenable Legerete de L'etre
= The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)

A helpful ressource is www.imdb.com. Plug in the french title and do a search. It's an amazing cinema database.

Salutations distinguees,

Nomad

Nomad>>Oh that is such a wonderful book...and I luv the title and now I can say it in french too Merci Beaucoup, Lindsay

Les Cadavres Ne Portent Pas De Costard-I got "Corpses don't wear suits" for this one...anybody ever heard of a movie called anything like this?

Posted:Okay, this is going to end up like a fill in the blanks thing. I only have first year high school french, so I can get a little bit. You win icecream from Sunspot if you can fill in the blanks:

L'homme qui Venait D'aillleurs - The man who (Blank)
Les Cadavres Ne Portent Pas De Costard - Don't know, ask C@ntus
La Verite - The truth?
La Dernier Des Geants - The back of (blank) (unsure of this one)
Les Berets Verts - The Green Berets
L'insoutenable Legerete de L'etre - The unbearable lightness of being (I think)
La Mort Aux Trousses - The Death of (blank)
La Poursuite Des Tuniques Bleues - The (blank) of the Blue (Blank)
Le Bal des Sirenes - No idea
Le Convoi des Braves - No idea

Now I have left it like an unfinished crossword... Calling Cassandra!!

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

What this calls for is a special mix of psychology and extreme violence...

Sooo... let's see..
a) NO BABEL TRANSLATION !:!!! never trust that thing !!

b) Paddy, thank you for the great laugh

c)
La Bal des Sirenes = The Dance (Ball ?) of the Mermaids

L'homme qui vennait d'ailleurs = The Man who came from Elsewhere (abroad, somewhere else... well, you get the idea )

La Poursuite Des Tuniques Bleues = the pursuit (you know when you run after someone) of teh blue eerr... you know, the uniform soldiers used to wear like buffalo Bill or something.

Les Enchaines = sure you'll find it in the database Nomad mentioned. to be "enchained" is to beattached to someone with a chain but also means depend of that person ... you get the idea.

Le Grande Sommeil = "the great sleep" ???
L'homme quit va liberty = sweetie ... that is most probably NOT the right title cause it really does not mean anything ...

not very helpfulll , sorry

ciao
