I honestly think the last guy I fell in love with knew it before I realized it myself.

I disagree with the tall blonde hippy. I'm always analyzing my feelings and emotions and asking for other's opinions. Does that mean I'm incapable of love?

I remember watching a play a while back and the woman tells the man passionately "I love you, don't you love me?!" to which he coldly replies "We define love differently."

That concept kinda stuck in my mind ... it does seem that everyone defines "love" differently. Some people can fall in "love" with many different people simultaneously. Some people only use "love" for romatic situations and relationships. Some people throw the word "love" around as the only positive emotion in their vocabulary. Some people hold it to a different standard and almost never say it.

And who's to say where love starts? Or stops? If you love someone now, was there a time before that? Was there an exact moment when it started? I've never had that moment. That "I looked at you standing in line at the Mc Donalds and when we both ordered the same thing I knew I loved you" moment. Love isn't that superficial for me.

Then again, I'm a 30 year old, sarcastic scientist so what the heck do I know about love? frown

Well, shall we go?

it's not that you are not capable of loving, you just aren't in love at the moment you have to wonder. maybe you will be... but when you ask if you are or aren't, you probably aren't.
when you are definately in love, you just are.you don't even think about questioning it, it's just a given.
besides, love and being in-love, are two different things in my opinion. you can like a person very much, even love him/her, but not necessarily be in love. does that make sense?

Posted:i'm a cynic when it comes to love. so there's my assurance that my answer isnt romantic idealism!

and this answer is the most frustrating thing, i know. but when you are in love you just know it. there is no other way around it. when you are asking yourself if you are or you arent, you're on the way - just not there yet.

i remember asking my two best friends that exact question, "how do you know when you're in love?" and they used to always tell me what i've told you - that you just know...and i used to HATE them for it! it was the most frustrating thing ever!

but then i fell in love. and i realised that they were exactly right.

don't sweat it. when you are, you'll know.

Bunch of puppies I think......probably a bunch of yung'uns to be askin' such a thing !

from age old experience (toothless grin)...I can tell you........

You know you're in love:

When he gets up early to take the kids to school so you can sleep in.

When she doesn't bitch about the toilet seat being left up.

When she can't cook anything beyond a "Healthy Choice" supper...and you don't care.

When he take you out 'cause you can't cook.......and doesn't complain about it.

When he doesn't bitch about your cat.......

When she doesn't bitch about your dog.......

When you've been through all this before............and there's still no other place you'd rather wake up than in his/her arms.

Done it for 20 years..............and still biggrin

Love is a verb....not a noun !

Posted:I gotta disagree again with most of the above sentiments. I think a person's definition of love greatly depends on who they are.

If you're a flighty person with roller coaster emotions who falls in and out of love with everything and everyone several times a day... love is one thing.

If you're a depressed person with no self esteem, unable to love even yourself then "Love" is something else.

If you're a logical and even keeled person who takes weeks and months to formulate emotions, "Love" is something even different.

If you're a person who trusts instincts and will buy a certain car or date a certian person because it "just feels right" you might define "love" based on something very different.

Just as every person is unique, each unique person has a different criteria and definition of love. Some people "Just know it" and some must think about it. There is no "right" definition for love, nor is there one specific set of criteria.

Don't adopt anyone else's definition or criteria for love.

Posted:Mmmmm. I am a 38 year old scientist and what do I know? Well for starts I like Love.
Love is many things which is why some languages have many words for love. They try to describe all the various aspects of love. As many of you know love is many things to many people (but in the end it is still love). Confused? Some languages don't even have a word for love. Go figure. I think at the end of the day love is very personal. We just feel the way we feel and mostly without the ability to control it. It can be overpowering.

But when do you know you are in love? As it has been said above "You just know". Well. At least I did. But here is a little exercise. Imagine how you would feel if the person you "love" were to leave. If the sense of loss is so great and they leave such a huge hole in your life then I suggest it must be a great love.

No expert. But certified Romantic. All the best in your pursuit of Love.

Posted:There is also a difference between loving someone and being in love with someone.

To be in love with someone, you need to love them.

To love someone, though, you don't need to be in love with them.

Mind you...I'm bubbling over in love, floating on cloud 9 in love, and just giddy in love these days.

I fall in love Way To Easily!!! I think I may have a problem sometimes, I really need not to care and start treating girls like Poop I guess? confused I am way to nice, and girls walk all over me. I am starting to date after a 4 1/2 year relationship. It is a bit scarry out there. I have been seeing an Old Gradeschool friend for a week or so, and already have feelings!!! This sucks because although I know she has had the biggest crush on me since 8th grade (and brought me to her Highschool Prom), I feel huge resistance in her heart... I don't know what to think?
