Well, since so many people had their intro threads wiped out and are starting new ones, I figure I could use these events to start my own, ultra-untimely intro, seeing as how I've been around HoP for like 3 years.

So then:

Name: Vance

Alias: Van, Vanize, Add, Zaidou (my 'African' name) ... oh, and I almost forgot, Pixie Banger! (don't ask if you don't really want to know).

Age: 34 (35 now)

Location: Potchefstroom, South Africa (WSW of Jo'berg) presently. Grew up in Houston, Texas. Most of my Family lives in Austin, Texas. I'm moving to Berlin, Germany in January for 2 years. (ok, been in Berlin for a year now)

Favourite Toys: sailboats (been sailing 29 years), surfboards (been surfing 19 years), poi (3.5 years) (almost 5 years now)

Occupation: Reasearch scientist (Ph.D. in space physics)

Hobbies: Too many - sailing, surfing, poi, scale models, travelling, collecting stamps and paper money from places I visit, Dungeons & Dragons, SCUBA diving, tropical fish, reading, painting, drawing, getting projects ready for Burningman, ....

Your favourite website/s: www.burningman.com

Music: I'll listen to most anything except modern country music. My favorites are classical (e.g. vivaldi, beethoven), trance, classic rock (led zep, hendrix, beatles), and what used to be called alternative (foo fighters, pixies, whale, ...)

Movies: blade runner (director's cut), strictly ballroom, band of brothers (more like a mini series I guess), amelie, ... er, I know there are more, but I can't think of them just now.

Books: mostly sci-fi, fantasy, and history.

Philosophy: Technological Gaiaism, Quantum Fatalism

Favourite Colour: Burgandy ( sorry Alice!)

Favourite Quote/Saying:

From a movie: "Gentleman, we have a blind date with destiny, and she just ordered the lobster!" - the Shoveler (Mystery Men).

From literature: "The great tragedy of life is not that men perish, but that they cease to love" - W. Somerset Maughn

From personal life: "I was just telling Sara K. that I have no particular segway between being stone cold sober and really wasted. Then she kicked her glass of water across the room..." - Zouwera (Christmas day, 2002, west africa)

So that is that. We'll see if it goes anywhere, eh?

Too late! was coming to warn you she's on a custard spree!

Hey Vanize,

want to catch up in Berlin? I go there in July to visit some friends (non fiery). Maybe there is a sunny day to meet in a park with lots of German food. It's the best!

Absolutely sprocket! gotta be picky about the german food though... can't just be eating any old kind of it and calling it the best.

and as for my favorite german phrase:
"Stecken Sie der Stecker in die Steckdose"

means "stick the plug in the socket"

I like the fact that the plug is male (der) and the socket is female (die) - that makes me very happy, and seems very proper and correct in my view.

the only chair I see anywhere in my area is the naughty girls chair - but really it is more like a bench than a chair. It does have a nice leather pad though, so if you will kindly take your poisition there, little miss "I think I will fill Vanize's boots with custard", then we can get on with this business of teaching you a proper lesson. Do you have any idea how much those boots costs?

Oooooooo thats fighting talk! I don't think Gayle will go that easily.

And as for the cost of your boots...... well what's a little custard between friends? You would have felt left out if I hadn't done it. Is this going to be a maths lesson...... I'm quite good at maths ...... I hope its not a french class. I'm rubbish at languages..... Maybe it could be a cookery lesson..... that custard was kind of lumpy........I wonder if I should have sieved it first....... then maybe you wouldn't be so mad....... perhaps if it had been chocolate custard........ Maybe if I'd put some hundreds and thousands on the top of the custard....... perhaps a cherry....... Damn I haven't iron any clothes for work yet and I have to go tomorrow....... poop........ work is so damn crappy....... why can't they just let me stay at home and do nothing instead of making me sit inside that shop for 8 hours doing nothing....... how about they actually advertise the shop so people came in......... what a novel idea!....... hmmmmm......am I rambling now?......... have I got on your nerves yet? Huh? huh? ....... should I go and iron some clothes?...... wheres my ironing, cleaning, sex slave when I need him?...... you just can't get the staff these days! ubblol I guess I'll have to get myself a power suit and some high heels and go work for ado-p...... he might let me spin staff and poi all day....... did I tell you I got a lovely new staff from Mech..... I'm covered in bruises already....... I've named the staff Ouch after the sound it most makes me make. It was called 'You Bastard' for a while but I can't really yell that out in the park when I practice....... too many mothers and toddlers...... don't want their first word to be 'bastard' now do we......... I got my bubble making machine to work today too........ now everything has that sticky bubble feel to it ubblol next time I must remember to put it outside to test it....... why a bubble machine I hear you ask...... well........ a house is not a home without one...... everyone needs a few bubbles in their life...... well I do...... am I boring you yet ? Huh? Huh?......... ok I'll quit........I'm off to iron blouses and trousers....... blagh...... have a nice day, picking bits of dried custard out of your boots hug

Hey Vanize,

it's "Stecken Sie DEN Stecker in die Steckdose". By the way, never heard that phrase in my life and it makes me wonder if I want to meet you if that's your favorite phrase wink

And what is your opinion on "das Maedchen" which means the girl but its a neutral gender? Not proper at all!!!

I send you a PM when I get to Germany. See you there.

hm, pinecones, my favourits!

yeah, well I admit my cases are horrible.

das maedchen... well, er, I could get in hot water for this, but if they are too young, best that they are gender neutral anyway, don't you think? we wouldn't want to suggest anything improper, would we?
