Gidg, I passed Skully on another post, providing consolation to the lovesick Mags, he needed cheering up. Telling a guy you'll make cushions out of his hide if he dares top himself is a novel way to cheer someone up, but it worked!

Gidg, you seem to be having fun in Germany, we're looking forward to seeing you here in Melbourne next year. Roll on 2005 and Gidg-in-Melbourne.

ubblol That sounds like Skully. At least it worked.

I had major fun in Germany. If it wasn't for Vanice and Babajaga things would have been soooooo boring. Thanks guys hug hug The spinning was great even though I didn't know what 3/4 of the conversations were about. biggrin.

I am looking forward to Australia next year like you wouldn't believe. The thought of getting out of the worst part of my winter is so appealing. Second only to meeting people from HoP and getting in some spins.

Actually I need to see if there is anyone in Sydney that would be willing to put me up for a bit in last week of February, or some where about there.

Ok! Ko! so I threatened to tan your sons hide and make ugly cushion covers out of it. I'm Sorry Rosie. I promise I won't do it. Well at least I won't use the horrible floral chintz on the reverse side of them. I'll find something more manly! ubblol I'm not sure it cheered him up. I think he just wanted to subdue the loonie woman from Wales.

Hello Gidg hug

Whats all this rubbish that Cantus is spouting about me being driven out of here? I don't know where he dreams this stuff up from!

Skully, I laughed myself silly at this idea, it chimed exactly with what I wanted to say. But we Mum's aren't allowed to say such things to our offspring. So I'm chuffed to bits that someone else did. I think it did cheer him up too. Thanks a bundle! wave

Gidg, I don't know anyone in Sydney, but there's bound to be some kind spinner over there who would love to meet you. I'll ask around, and you post around and somehow there will be a place to lay your head in that good city.

Bye for now. bye

I'm reminded of that australian folk song, "tie me kangaroo down"

the last stanza is something like:

"tan me hide when I'm dead, fred,

tan me hide when I'm dead...

well we tanned his hide when he died, clide,

that's it hanging on the shed!

al together now:

tie me kangaroo down, mate,

tie me kangaroo down, ..."

etc...

anyway, point is, it must be an austraian fetish or something that Skully accidently stumbled upon...

Don't mention Rolf Harris to me!!! The Womad Festival will never be the same since he came and played it. He got half way through his set and asked the crowd if they had any requests. My Big mouth sister yelled out 'Six White Boomers!!' Rolf replied 'Are you sure?!?!?' He looked at her and said 'You REALLY want me to play that tune?' She yelled yes and he did. The whole crowd looked non-plused as they had never heard of it. Trust my sister! (for those that don't know what its about its a christmas song where a kangaroo helps santa deliver presents) It was the summer on a hot day in the middle of a field! ubblol

Rolf is in his 70's. He came from Australia to Britain ages ago and did this weird mix of art, singing, presenting. I guess he is most known the world over now for presenting Animal Hospital. He is a really nice guy and a talented artist. I'll have a search later and see if any of his art works are online for you. I have to go Christmas shopping now. YAY! Christmas! Thanks Wonderlush, now I don't feel so out of it.

Skully did you have to come up with Christmas shopping? I love the holiday and so ready for it but the cash flow is not going to be what it has been in previous years so shopping is something that I DON'T want to think about.

Well instead of shopping for gifts make them. Can you bake or knit or sew? One year when I was utterly broke I made everyone Truffles. They tasted yummy but were no good for anyone on a diet or suffering a heart condition! ubblol They were made with fresh cream and chocolate then flavoured with brandy, rum ,lemon, orage, nuts. It was fun to do too. I'll try and find a recipe if you like. Its probably jotted in an old sketch book somewhere.

That's what I was thinking of this year, making stuff. A little late for doing some kind of craft but I'm thinking of doing home made cinnamon bread. Did it a couple of years back and it went over real big. In fact the following year there were several people disappointed that they didn't get more bread. The Truffles sound interesting but 3/4 of the people on my list are either dieting or can't because of health conditions.

Know what ya mean - woke to the dulcet tones of Tie me kangaroo down at Glastonbury 2 yrs ago - nearly contemplated going straight! Very surreal - but great fun in the end clap

And yes - mmm cinnamon bread - I can smell it!

Rolf Harris... my parents lived in Australia for a couple years in the early-mid '60s, before I was born. i think I probably heard the same 3 or 4 rolf harris albums about 5000 times by the time I was 10 years old. ubbloco

Rolf was on a complilation of Stairway to Heaven renditions with his wobble board I think or the didge. Cant remember.
Our local fair two years ago broke the world record of most wobble boards playing at one time!!

tee hee.

I don't get up there as often as I'd like. I have a lot of friends in Portland, and also in Seattle, which I tend to think of as being close even though they're not all that close. You know, it's all just "up there." I'm very much a hobbit of the shire and hardly ever leave San Francisco, really at all. Even Berekely is too far sometimes! Sad, I know...
