Posted:Ok ok so I did look at the double staff posts but I just need to know where to start...

Been doing a basic staff course for 4 weeks...
Picked up staff before (a few times) and have done fire staff a couple of times, just playing...

Yesterday was eventful... I picked up two staffs.
It worked!
So now that I know I'm capable of spinning two staffs... what now?!
Besides improving my single staff ability...

Love drome

Posted:very important to start turning…. if oyou can turn, then performance/style comes swiftly after, as you start to dance with the staffs. two basic things to work on tho…not entirely sure which ou are doing but I am guessing one of these – both staffs same direction or staffs in opposite directions.
if you are trying the first, just make sure one hand is doing a figure eight to the side of that hand, and the other hand is doing a reverse figure8. et voila.
the second either both forwards(but to either side i.e. left hand figure8 pointing left, right figure8 to the right.

then we shall see…… but welcome to double staffing

you may never leave…..

ps more help on the turning in a day or so when not running around....

Posted:What Miniero said, plus, try to conecentrate on seperating out the individual staffs so you can do one pattern with one and a completely different pattern with the other.

Some, not all, people tend to to stick with mirrored patterns, even out of synch, and the seperate patterns give you so much more choice in moves.

I don't mean avoid the mirrored patterns but keep in mind how to seperate them too...

Posted:Hmmm...

I can do alternating figures of eight... and at the same time...
I can do 'shotgun' and reverse shotgun simply... as well as alternating appart and going up into figures of eight and back... make sence?
I can also do all of the above in both directions and above my head...

I started dancing with some doubles yesterday

Also began experimenting with changing directions whilst dancing with the staffs trying to do different moves when I turned and experimented with taking various moves out of synch...(both directions)

I'm trying to do a three beat weave but cant quite get the extra finger roll down...
I'm also going to try experimenting with say one staff doing figure of eight up in front of me and one backwards behind my back... and turing in and out of that.

What exactly do you mean by mirrored patterns Inferno? The same move on both sides?

This is well fun!
You're right Mineiro I'm not ever leaving!
Much love, Drome
