T'was not bad. You know, bit of spinning, bit of juggling. Not bad winkI'm really, really glad I went! I had an amazing and inspiring time! Kinda like a large playground full of people having fun by throwing things in the air. A huge variety of workshops, toys and people. Whip cracking is fun to try! And so many cool things to potentially buy, but thankfully I kept spending down to a minimum! And the sunshine was sooo nice! Nothing like spending the day outside spinning and throwing things. And the people were all so very lovely! Nice to meet so many lovely, lovely people! And Orange spinning orange flags, what a sight!Unfortunately I had to leave on Sunday evening to attend a cocktail party, and that caused some hassle. Party was great fun tho.All in all an excellent weekend! Thank you to all.So, is the European going to be more of the same?

I can't believe I'm the first attendee of the BJC to post a message here! How unreal - everyone must still be recuperating…What a weekend! :-)I got down fairly late on Friday, because, well…the details aren’t really necessary…partly because I was shaving my boyfriend’s head…aaaaanyway…We tried to stay at the hostel we’d booked, but there was no answer at the inn as it were…and so just went down to the site to find everybody…which didn’t turn out to be all that hard to do…They had created a room for us that was just a paradise…and some of the highlights of the weekend for me were in this room, where the party never seemed to end:You could look up from where you were sitting at any time of the day or night to see several people doing amazing and beautiful things all around the room.People were “dancing” on snake-boards and roller blades around all the jugglers. I think it was just the surreal way in which they moved that contrasted so well with the jugglers…especially if you didn’t look at their feet – it was as if they were floating…People made a huge balloon sculpture of hundreds of long balloons (the kind clowns and other actors make rabbit hats or what ever with.) I climbed into it with Ewan and we danced and snogged in it for ages – quite romantic really. Aw...Sweet!The ropes (which we weren’t actually allowed to use – oops!) that we made into swings and hung from…and ouch! my arms still hurt from that one! The people everywhere that were consistently friendly, open, kind and sharing. The kind of place where you know you could lose everything, including yourself in an evening, and be completely confident that you would find it all again in the morning or that someone would help you put it all back together. And the best part is that you knew that no matter what your skill level, and even if you were just trying something for the first time, everyone was there to support you with praise or help you get that new move…and you didn’t have to ask for either. The weekend came down with a thud yesterday, as it probably did for most of the attendees…timeless weekends away with friends always seem to crash-land into reality…but that’s life, all timeless things are ephemeral……where and when is the next convention?? To Martin, the snake-board man, if you read this, please email me – such a pity we never did do the number-swap thing…I kept meaning too, but there always seemed to be more time ahead of us…To Jane, please add the words you spoke around the camp-fire in the wee hours of Saturday morning to this page…they were beautiful…To all the folks from Just Jugglers in London, it was wonderful to spend so much time playing with you all and I look forward to doing it all over again soon…though I’m not sure I’m going to Poi at all this week – I’m all poi-ed out right now…maybe I'll bring my new Staff! :-)To Lisa, Damon, Drew, Hazel, Orange, Dave, Dom and Ewan especially…thank you for an unforgettable time…To all those who couldn’t make it, noticeably Dave, Stu and Marco…I certainly missed you…Keep on playing…it is the fountain of youth…youth is not a time of life…it’s a state of mind…Lots of love,Carrey[This message has been edited by Carrey (edited 03 April 2002).]

cassandra, I think the simple answer is "Yes!"It was great...There were a lot of spinners there, I guess about 50 (does anyone think there were more?), but everyone seemed to be trying out new stuff as well, so the lines between the different arts got a bit blurred over time. I know I was trying contact and staff stuff too…There were several amazing contact jugglers, but one that stood out in my mind spent most of his time on a pair of blades and he was absolutely mesmerising...he was a very tall man with dark hair, and quite shy about his talent. He really did make you believe that the ball controlled his body and was the point on which he pivoted, not the other way around...C smile

Right, Cass, here you go: grinhow many spinners were there ?Like Carrey says, lots. We didn't do a cenus tho winkwas tehre a lot of fire ?tehre was some, in the early hours of the morning. At one time I counted 12 people all spinning fire at the same time.any great new toys ?Far too many available! Luckily I had some self control and the only toys I bought were some lovely UV active juggling clubs, and some little wicks.fans / fire fingers represented ?None that I saw frown We introduced flags to quite a few people tho smileany crazy contact juggling ?The impromtu contact session in the gym on Saturday night was really very, very impressive! Some amazing moves! Paul (?) was doing some great, expansive moves. Wicked stuff!how were the workshops ? poi wokshop ? staff workshop ?A couple of each, more beginner/intermediate than anything ground breaking. Other workshops were varied and very cool. Capoeira, whip cracking, breakdancing, massage, etc...how many people ?The theatre must have sat a couple of hundred people, and it was full, so about 200 maybe?Personally I didn't spin until my arms fell off, I didn't spin fire once. My aim was to watch people to see what was out there and learn new skills. So my staff is now vaguely passable (more than 2 moves) and I'm learning to juggle clubs, which is proving to be great fun!I'm looking forward to the European now grin grin grinAnd who are we??? The Just Jugglers crew and friends were based in the gym, so if you were in there you probably met a couple of the guys. See you in London sometime!

just to add to doms stuff"200", ahem, count again, at least 500 people. "Impromptu contact session" humph. 12 midnight is the perfect time for a contact juggling gathering. Yes cass lots of lovely contact style. paul has a website, with animations of some moves, not his best new stuff, yet, www.thesilverman.co.uk and skip straight to the contact section.rob, If I got this right, you were the dude with the cool spikey hair. and some fly doubles moves. You probably wouldn't have met carrey, as she spent the whole convention squatting in out tent with her boy. he's round here somewhere.I guess you now met steve (contact staff), he's a bit of a legend. huh.It was the festival of the staff, there seemed to be about 50 people doing staff!!I didn't even take my poi out all weekend. But i did a lot of really good sleeping, and i found out that carrey is an exceptionally got thing to hug. dom's easy to spotin a crowd, just look up. ooh, and he has big orange flags. latas potatasglass

Glass, Kat is a shiny hippy from NZ, she is short (taller than me .. but i am 152 cm tall... so everyone seems taller than me ) she is about 30, she spin and does contact juggling too.
Can't tell what her poi look like cause she makes so many different style of poi ...
long red haired and very "boing boing boing" firey is what defines her best IMO...
speaks some kiwi english I sometimes have a hard time understand it but has a beautiful heart.
I got a message on my answering machine today from her (I missed it ) she told me that someone from HoP came up to her at the convention and did tell her i say hi and hug her.

WHOEVER you are, thank you, thank you, really. Thanks for remembering it and doing this for me.
It really moved me to know that and made me happy.
Sending *you* smiles and hugs and sunshine, whoever you are .... hope i'll find out and thank you in person though

No problemo, bella
I am the first one to mock my english and any other language i speak... i am totally cool with it. It is just sometimes I get sooooo frustrated when i can't express what i mean in english or other languages. you know ? when the brain can't go as fast and well as your train of thoughts.
If we were in real life you'd see me use hands and feet to illustrate what i want to say... here on hoP, I just go

But thanks for the smiles and hugs anyway

Cass, shut up! Take it from me, your English is outstanding for somebody who has never lived in an English speaking country. Every now and again you hiccup, but you're always clearer than some other people I know who are meant to be natives!
