This one's going to be tough to explain but I'm having fun with it so I thought I'd share.

With fire sometimes it looks cool to do a 4 beat weave with the poi intime (not split time). The poi are basically touching and, by doing weavelike motions with each hand, you can to two beats with each poi on each side. On the same beat.

The reason why I like it is that because the wicks are touching, you get one larger flame from what looks like one poi, then you can go into split time for a 3 or 5 beat weave. The contrast looks nice, especially on techno breaks IMHO.

Then I found out that if you hold your hands properly you can break one of the first rules of poi. You can do circles on one side of your body ad infinitum.

You just need to hold your poi with one hand clenched upside down, and the other actually gripping your hand underneath it (both strings going between your fingers and out)... I thought the strings would have tangles or at least spun around each other but after all sorts of playing around, they actually don't. You can, therefore, just spin on one side of you as many times as you'd like as long as you keep your hands together.

It has sort of a two-handed sword look to it, as you can spin both poi on either side, behind you, or above your head and they are acting like one larger poi.

I actually like it less as a move, but more as a contrast to everything else in my bag of tricks.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
[They do not move.]

I've been doing a similar thing, but also using partial wraps sometimes, switch to the other side to unwrap, but usually I only wrap the chain once around my arm, so the wick never touches. also I just grab the poi in one hand alot, and with alot of practice, you can move your arm in to switch to a split time weave really quickly, and it looks very impressive going from one to two hands.

you can't have a war against terrorism because war IS terrorism.it's not about worshipping fire. its about making the fire want to worship you.

hey dude that's what i was talking about when i was showing you 'the crane', did you get that? theres more in there! those so called "rules of poi" don't exist, that's just the downside of being taught by others...there's more cool stuff just around the corner for you... how exciting!

btw it is possible to do the crane with your hands apart, too. keep one hand slightly higher that the other and it's easier, but it's mostly about timing (one chain slightly ahead of the other) and plane control(just slightly off of the same plane, depending on how wide your wicks are).
