Hey, eca, maybe you can help me with something. I automatically became a raver when I started poi, apparently, and I'm wondering if I become anything if I pick up contact juggling. Is it still a raver toy, or do I get back carnie cred?

As well as earn awesome points! I've only seen contact juggling at a few raves. And it's nowhere near as impressive there as it is in a beautiful location.Contact juggling can be really frustrating, more so than poi I would say. At least when you muck up with poi you usually feel it (ie smacked in the head).
If you're looking to learn contact, I'd say forget stage balls entirely and pick up 2 acrylics. Practice with one of them and store the other away and try to forget it exists until you feel you're ready to really bust out some moves. Acrylics scratch/chip pretty easily, but they have more weight and less tack (making things like enigma isolations easier).
If you want to go with a stage ball, I'd recommend a Sil-x ball, they are stage balls filled with liquid silicone that give you a weight closer to that of an acrylic.

Ah, but if you live in a city with a serious dearth of all-ages events, 21 can be a pretty bug deal. Don't know if Tacoma's as bad as Seattle in that respect, but it's rough for the underage crowd here.

Not being 21 prevents me from going to Hells Kitchen (a small metal show venue not far from my house) and I got a good friend who works in the bar. So Im excited for that kinda stuff. Also being able to choose what I want and not have people buy the wrong alcohol is quite an issue sometimes. As for Seattle and being 21 I get to be a part of the block parties. They shut off whole parts of the street so people can walk around and get drunk
