WARNING!! Ranting HoPper!!
Today, for many of you, is Pay Day. Normally a happy day when for once your bank account is in a reasonable state and you can once again afford to resume normal living until it runs out again!
Today for me went rather the other way. I opened up my payslip and there it was
Pay = 0.00
I have been off sick for six months, I have been being paid Statutory Sick Pay (which is only about £60 a week) by my company as I have not been there long enough to get proper sick pay.
When I phoned them to query why they had not paid me anything, all they would say was that I wasn't entitled to the SSP anymore and thats why I wasn't getting it. They had nothing to say when I asked why they had not warned me and didn't even apologise for completely stuffing up everything for me.
So I have now spent the day trying to sort this out. I have £200 worth of Direct Debits going out of my account over the next few days and my bank will fine me £30 for each one that i can't pay.
The Bank won't do anything to help me because it's not 'their problem'. Apparently they can only help if there is a bank error. They won't help me because its my employers fault.
I rang up the benefits agency and they can't get me an appointment until next week and it will take weeks for my claim to go through. They also said that my company should have told me 4 weeks before they stopped paying me about the stopping of my pay, they should also have filled out a form and sent it to the benefits agency...which they didn't.
I understand that they company I work for cannot pay me for being off sick indefinately but they could have at least warned me and they most definately should have filled out the forms that they are obliged to do. It has completely screwed up my finances and I have no idea how I am going to cope. My mum has sent me some money to help but its still not enough to sort out this giant mess!
And to top it all, I now probably will not be able to attend Falmouth
Ok, rant over!! I just had to get it all out, I'm so angry!
I'm off to skin up!

I've been there and had this done to me too. Its the pits.
Try going to the social and asking for an emergancy loan thingie.... I forget the official name. Sometimes they will pay out...... not often though, but its worth a try. Other than that try asking your company if they will give you a loan as its their fault that you weren't warned and that they didn't fill in the correct forms. Bombard them with legal jargon and make it sound like you have taken legal advice. It might scare them into doing it.
Also go and see the Citizens Advice Bureau. Its free and they will give you legal advice and benefit advice too. They can also send out letters for you that can help to stop creditors from leaping on your back. If you show people that this is just a glitch and that you are trying hard not to default on payments to them, before they even notice that your not able to pay, they usually are willing to be lenient.

you will beable to get Incapactiy benifit if you have earned enough NI contibutions... which it turns out i didn't.
i hope it sorts itself out soon and if you need some advice just hollar.

I'll be writing a lovely letter to the payroll department at work too. They've made me so angry I don't think i will get very far if i phone them, it took everything i had not to shout at them when i first spoke to them.
Hopefully I have made enough NI contributions, if not, I'm screwed!

I hope you get better soon gothfrogette its a tough journey but you can do it
My mum has offered to drive the 50 miles to my house and the 130 miles to falmouth so that i can get there and my boyfriend has said he will pick me up. My mum says she'll send me with a food parcel too They know how much it means to me. I still can't believe that they are both willing to drive me all that way, i'm very lucky
I can't wait to meet you and everyone, i'm looking forward to it so much
(although i am somewhat nervous about turnng up to a field full of people, of which i have met about 6 or so before briefly! its going to be scary but worth it!)

as for legal stuff im not sure but if you get plundged into big debt by this it maybe possible to pass on the cost to your employers as its their fault that you didnt have money etc - not sure of teh exact legal standing but it sounds like it might be possible

Star the first time I went to Falmouth I hadn't met any of them before. I met Non on the train on the way to Bristol and Gayle and Sarah in the car from Bristol to Falmouth. It was one of the silliest but best things I ever did. Everyone there is lovely... you'll have a blast. YAY your mum and Boyfriend!

I was having a 'woe is me' day yesterday (so apologies for being so miserable!) after a good nights sleep it doesn't seem so bad. After all, its only money and it could be a lot worse. I've filled in all the benefit forms, the bank is being more reasonable so I think everything should be ok.
I am so happy that I can still go to Falmouth and I really can't wait to meet everyone
oh and sparkey...they are good at making me giggle!

Seeing as its been nearly a month since I applied for incapacity benefit and I still hadn't heard anything, I decided to give the benefits office a call to find out what was going on.
I was told I was not entitiled to incapacity benefit because i have not made enough national insurance contributions. I asked why I had not been contacted and told about this and they just said 'don't know'
So now i have to apply for income support which will take another few weeks for them to process and fk up. Maybe i'll get some money out of them by the end of year!
I'm so angry...they could have saved me the 4 week wait and told me earlier. Also, why is incapacity benefit based on national insurance contributions when its not the fault of the person who is ill.
There are lots of people on Jobseekers allowance and although many of them are looking for work, I know that there are a great deal of people who do the bare minimum to look for a job so they can claim benefit and they can't be bothered to get a job. Its like I am being punished for being ill. As if being ill wasn't enough.

this whole thing is really really stressing me out!
I've been doing some research and it seems that the jobcentre messed up yet again and should have sent me forms for people under 25. They never mentioned anything about this when i went in for an appointment with an advisor or when i was on the phone to them. Its not exactly complicated, i'm 22 so give me the forms for people my age!
I now just have to get the new forms, fill them out (which normally takes hours!) and then wait for the jobcentre to process them. Hopefully it won't take more than a few weeks....but then again, they have already shown how incompetant they are so i wouldn't be surprised if it takes longer!
I'm lucky that i have friends and family that can help me out but what about those who don't have people they can borrow money off? It makes me so angry! If it hadn't been for the help i've received from my parents and boyfriend, i would have starved to death weeks ago and had all my belongings reposessed!

I mean, surely there must be someone you can go to at least to complain about the delay they've caused you by giving you the wrong forms. Demand to speak to the head of the job centre and bring someone to back you up so that if you're out of words they can take over the discussion. You might convince them to treat your case really urgently, if nothing else, given that they've screwed up in the first place. Good luck with everything again

i've been on the phone to the department for work and pensions and they won't send me the forms for under 25 for reasons that don't exist! they say i need to have been off sick for over 26 weeks (it was 28 weeks on the 31st may!) and when i say i have they say oh well says here that you can't apply with this form. They were going on about needing to have been on incapacity benefit for a certain time before i can apply for the under 25 thingy but this makes no sense! the reason i want to apply for the under 25 benefit is because i CANT get incapacity benefit. I ended up having to hang up on them because i was so angry and upset that i couldn't talk to them anymore.
i don't understand why this is so difficult!

i've been on the phone to the department for work and pensions and they won't send me the forms for under 25 for reasons that don't exist! they say i need to have been off sick for over 26 weeks (it was 28 weeks on the 31st may!) and when i say i have they say oh well says here that you can't apply with this form. They were going on about needing to have been on incapacity benefit for a certain time before i can apply for the under 25 thingy but this makes no sense! the reason i want to apply for the under 25 benefit is because i CANT get incapacity benefit. I ended up having to hang up on them because i was so angry and upset that i couldn't talk to them anymore.
i don't understand why this is so difficult!

it's like getting money from a stone...when i was off sick 8 months i was supposed to get 6 months full pay, but the company was sold and with no warning the stopped it even though it was on my contract. they said that all contracts were up for renewal and i cold complain if i wanted...grrrr

thanks spanner but i've spent the day at the job centre (and boy was that a fun day!) and it seems i really am entitled to nothing!
It seems that I'm not entitled to the young persons thingy because my degree doens't count as education because its distance learning with the OU, not 'full time education'. That and they didn't explain it right on the phone.
I haven't enough National insurance credits because in the last two years, i've only worked 9 months because i've been off sick so much. Whilst off sick i was only on statutory sick pay which meant that there were no national insurance contributions
so now everything kind of makes sense it just doesn't seem fair!
How can i be expected to make enough national insurance contributions if i can't work?!?!
My mum, yet again, has helped me out with this months bills and my boyfriend is paying way more than his fair share.
There must be so many people in this situation that aren't as lucky as me to have people who can help them out with money. To anyone else going through this

After spending ages online completing the Tax Creditss form they are saying that we are not entitled to it
The form asks for how much we earnt last year. Last financial year, i worked from april till november, earning about £10,000. They used this to work out if we can claim. This financial year i have received £611.47 in Statutory Sick Pay and thats it! Why they have to use last years information I don't know.
I will be phoning them tomorrow to see what they can do and wether they can do it based on my earnings this year.
to make things even worse, I have food poisoning. I spent 7 hours yesterday continuously throwing up and i'm still being sick now if i try to eat anything, or drink anything that isn't water. Asda thai fishcakes, very yummy but evil!
