Try using fencing wire twisted with a drill. Where it is twisted it is much stronger and straighter and where it is not twisted it is more easily bent. I attached mine to leather finger...

Awesome but easy
"These fire snakes were bigger than I expected but when I lit them up they spun beautifully and were easy to use. They take a little longer than poi to light up evenly but that is to be expected with such a long wick. All the usual long poi moves can be performed with the Fire Snakes and for people who have been spinning for a while they can really add veriety to a performance."
