Oooh...I've got all kinds of recipe's for the slow cooker...and so does Pat...but here's a good one for some chili from a friend of mine...only thing is, you'll have to do the conversions to metric...so sorry...

Just do the first part in a skillet and transfer it over into your slow cooker...and let it simmer for a while...it's absolutely yummy!!!

Turkey Chili

By Tamara

1 tsp oil
1 large onion
2 garlic cloves
2 med carrots,
sliced into thin rounds
1 pound ground turkey
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp paprika
1 ½ tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp cumin
2 med tomatoes diced
1 C tomato sauce
1 C chicken broth
1 ½ Tbsp apple cider
vinegar
1 ½ C cooked kidney beans,
rinsed & drained
1 med bell pepper, chopped
½ salt
pinch black pepper

Spray a large pot or sauce pan with cooking spray,
and heat to medium. Add oil, carrots, and onion
and sauté until onion is soft. Add garlic and stir
briefly. Add turkey and brown meat, stirring to
break up lumps. Cook about 5 minutes.

Add chili, paprika, red
pepper flakes, cumin,
tomatoes, tomato sauce,
broth and vinegar.
Bring to a boil. Reduce
heat and cover. Simmer
30-45 minutes, until
meat is tender.
Add kidney beans and
green pepper and
simmer, uncovered for
about 10 minutes, until
peppers are cooked.
Season with salt & pepper.

Yields around 6 cups

I do a beef stew in the slow cooker, too...and meatballs and...just stuff...I ubblove my slow cooker!!!

Gidg, you might be surprised at the chili...you can't tell the difference...and it's not got all the high fat content that you get from using ground beef...I've even started using ground turkey in in other things that usually call for ground beef...gotta keep that girlish figure, y'know? *wiggles*

Ground beef? Nope, chili meat, much better texture. And no matter how much you talk no one will ever convince me that poultry chili is good. I've been having a running argument for the last two ... almost three years with a chef about this subject. He's given up. biggrin

I don't know about apricot chicken in slow cookers, but when I cook it in the over, I use apricot nectar and french onion soup mix (the powder stuff)

eek You really are Rouge? Now that IS bad news.

Bek, Chili meat is normally made out of the toughest part of the steere and cut into small cubes. Smaller than stew but larger than hamburger. You can use the toughest of the meets because of the long cooking time and everything is fine. I never use hamburger because it breaks down too fine and I want the small chunks of meat. Any true butcher can gut you up some chili meat, mine does it for me all the time.

They've actually given us til January. But that won't work for us (one of us was moving out in Dec anyway!) so we're going to negotiate that we can all move out in December...but I'm in the middle of exams now, and I had plans to travel a bit this December! That's not going to happen if I have to be in Melbourne to inspect houses frown
