I range this to all skill toys that apply, I myself primarily spin poi, and I think the topic pertains to poi a little more.

I have my Fire Poi on chains of course, my Flowlights on colecord w/ crystal case and double mass, and then a couple pairs of HoP led sock poi.

I prefer my flowtoys for regular spin and practice. They have my preferred weight and feel. I think the cord relates to chains better keeping fire from feeling strange compared to spinning socks for a while then picking up chains. So my flowlights are my fav tongue2

So far my favorite setup is my inner tube poi with 5/16" rope and PX3 handles, long enough to go half way up my upper arm. The PX3s only narrowly beat out inner tube counterweights; while I like the counterweights for throws, the smaller knobs make it easier to do throws in tight spaces (like UTL). The length means that I can wrap them around two fingers to make them "tech poi length", can do nice big flowers with them unwrapped, and they're not so long that tosses are unwieldy and weird.

Though visually I would prefer something like pendulum poi, if only the balls weighed twice as much.

Half-serious joke: Put ball bearings in them? Although the rattle would be annoying and it might make throws behave oddly.

I like my pendulum setup. I need to get thicker cords though, which will mean altering my handle setup.

Handle(whichever I prefer at the time because it changes all the time, right now double loop)-sewn to swivel -- colecord -- flowlights with double mass
Yes I know, no bottom swivel. I don't have one on my main fire poi either.

The only luck is bad luck.

I had problems with it twisting for like a day and now I haven't had the problem since smirk I was thinking about putting it on to see how I like it longer, but it might already be the right length because it just almost hits the ground when I put my arms down.

Can you post pictures of these poi?

Sure. You'll recognize them as pretty much what you always see Noel Yee using (his might be heavier, and he uses a stiffer rope). Apologies for the weird lighting.

The heads are just the tube cut open, wrapped tightly around the rope, and then taped tightly with black gaffer's tape. The white tape is just for visibility, and I change it out when it starts looking... well, about as dirty as it does now. The handles are held on with figure of eight knots, which are a little bulky for them, but they don't roll out the way I've had overhand knots do.

Well, they're 24"/61cm, which isn't actually all that short. That's as long as HoP's large pendulum poi. The heads are 3.75" long (not counting the tapered portion) by 1.75" across, meaning their longest dimension is more than half an inch bigger than the 80mm balls. Point being, the head makes the proportions look weird.

Ah it does look very short in picture though hahaha that's probably about the length I would use.
