Little update for you all (thought I'd start a new thread as the last one was getting a bit big!!). I've been a busy bee tonight and I now have 4 pairs of the MK4 (dare I say final?) boards soldered together... now to get something to put 'em in ready for Synergy!

It's like he can read my mind!

I popped home at lunch today to find that I have a package containing some accelerometers waiting on my desk... it's going to be almost impossible to solder the little devils, but quite exciting none-the-less biggrin

Heya I've been nosily following your progress for aages now, I feel its time for me to say you guys are amazing! I'm studying engineering at the moment, and I can't get my head around the electronics / microprocessors module, or C++ programming (oh wait, i can make a program that says hello and asks your name:)) - its totally unbelievable that you're making these so well. It's always interesting following the design process too, thanks for sharing the goodness.

When you get to a stage where you're happy with your final design, I hope you find some funding to go into mass mass mass production in the near future! Inexpensive quality products are a lovely rare thing these days. Good luck with your accelerometers!

Thanks very much! I'm just about to have a crack at soldering one of those accelerometers and just to give you an idea how tiny these things are...

I got a load of accelerometer boards working last night *grin* ...just need some firmware to process their output now!

...and yes, a video with four people spinning hyperlights would be awesome, but the footage we got before is reasonably good. Polarity, would you be around this week to try shooting some more? The stuff myself and Chutney got before was good but he's right about it looking a little washed out - the camera couldn't cope with the brightness!

wxwidgets makes baby Jesus cry.

(well, compiling with some addons for it that would have been REALLY useful, on vs2k5, spent more than 4 hours last night trying to work through link errors with the guys in #wxwidgets on freenode)

Alright, compiling wxWidgets in the first place can be a bit of a pain (although I'm not sure what I did wrong the first few times as I can now compile it relatively easily!). I'm sure it gets complicated if you start adding in the additions.

Which addons were you trying to add?

oh I've pretty much sorted it all now, I had to ditch the nice wxVC project creating wizard that set up everything nicely including fully linking in the formbuilder generated files for you. (and everything that I'd been working on using that already)

I'd spent quite a bit of time learning how to use that properly and building the start of a new UI, then learnt about how wxAUI is built into the new wxWidgets codebase so wanted to explore that , and just ended up having a choice of it either happily compiling the wx demo's and samples, or the wxPack parts (wxVC formbuilder integration) I'd been working with, never both (with 20-30 minutes in between attempts at retrying, minimum, due to having to reinstall and recompile everything).

I'm starting from scratch now, and will just have to take the extra time to learn exactly how to integrate everything by hand instead.

Everything will be far better for it by the end, including my knowledge, it's just going to take more time and effort.

Blimey! Just be sure to keep a record of what steps you take so that the rest of us can reproduce them and contribute to your efforts. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with! biggrin

If I get a chance, I'll have a bit more of a hack at getting the wiki working on the hyperlight site so we can try and keep track of things. I've also been toying with the idea of installing bugzilla and tying it to the repository along with a mailing list for interested developers smile

wouldn't have to go through the same crap even a week from now if I'd forgotten exactly what I did and there was a new release.
