Hey all
i hope u'll all understand me when i say how the hell do i do 'huggies.' I've just come back from the clapham common meeting (awesome guys biggrin) and someone there was telling me about how you sort of hug urself and do a trick behind ur back but they werent all that sure about uit themselves to be able to explain to me....like what tricks u can do, how to get into it and the general technique. Any useful tips or links to other websites would be great wink
thanks

humm I can do huggies (that is if we are calling huggies spinning with one arm on top of the other)

and I can just about do a few real rotations in Straight jacket (with arms actually crossed (right hand under left pit left hand on top of right bicep))

first of my question is I how the hell do you get into SJs from normal spinning???
(I can only do it if I thread my poi through my arms cross then an kind of swing back and forth like an idiot till I get hem both spinning!!)

the only way I can see is by doing something like a negative space move (simians vid) as the poi needs to be threaded through your arms?????? but this would still need sills idiot wobbling to get them spinning gurrrrr

go into a barrel roll style inversion and then with out exiting that go into a straightjacket...
thats the method i usually attempt to use, but i think theres another method involving stalls and antispinning things through gaps, which i have no idea about..

just think of a straightjacket as a crosser (huggie peace ) done while you are inverted to the 1st degree cool

that probably dosnt help, and good luck smile

yey just found a way of getting into the SJ position. I was trying simian's negative space stuff [Old link] at 00:52 cool

but trying to keep it spinning in the same direction smile
so I was trying to pull into it from wave. When I did manage this (not spinning with arms crossed yet rolleyes) I noticed you pull out of it in an interesting way after repeating a few times I started to think I had seen this before biggrin

I quick search through my vid collection came up with Icon's [Old link]

I figure it is totally possible to get into SJs from this move I just haven’t managed it yet!!!!!!! wink

Think it will take me some time to actually get it spinning but the theory is there. redface

God I love discovering moves by accident ubbloco

This is a short film about my progression so far into learning Straight jackets. biggrin

As you can see I cant do it yet but it shows my slow progression ubbrollsmile

So far as you can see I can do most of the individual parts but not all together as yet rolleyes.

What I am trying to do is get into it from a negative space move taken from [Old link] at 00:52

but trying to keep it spinning in the same direction smile

so I was trying to pull into it from weave. I can get this far but cant keep it spinning yet

and I can get the straight jacket real motion going for a few rotations. Until I start to hit myself (ouch) redface

I'm slowly getting there give me a few more days and I think I might just get it yeyyyyyyyy biggrin

You send it link first until it gets uploaded to Google video wink

Huggie is any contact tapback , you use Poi body rather than head or handle for reversing the direction of the Poi.

There are plenty ways how to start huggie. I found throws possible for release , but way difficult to synchronize one spinning Poi and one contacting, in one hand. Any tips for releases?

what ????????? how do tap backs have anything to do with huggies

lol, awesome picture. I've tried to do that thing that u were talking about cole.. about spinning in wheel plane then turning-1 beat- then turning and thats fine but it doesnt relaly give the same look as this.
(urm i cant do links yet so pls just copy and paste this)
https://www.feuershow.de/
then go to the crossover weave video.
i looked at Rev's poi goes punk videos and the sj's look a bit different to this.

omg that site is amazing! i wish i could read german.. haha offtopic

You do not need to read German. We want to offer english descriptions everywhere in our 1048 Tutorial Videos but we need someone to describe the moves wink so, just do it!

are we talking huggies or straight jackets hear

huggies just pull out into a flower or weave

straight jackets can be pulled out of by bringing both poi to one side it becomes a kind of buzz saw weave type move [Old link]

hugs (the quick route to embracable joy):

1. cross your arms over each other so your left hand is on your right hand side and your right hand on your left hand side.
spin forwards circles (wheelplane).

2. keep your arms in the same position as step 1 but spin your poi in backwards circles instead.

3. now try to go from step 1 to step 2 by turn 180 degrees.
make sure when you turn around that you don't uncross your arms.
go from step 2 to step 1 by turning 180 degrees back again.

when you can do step 3 standing in wallplane, with just a beat in position 1 and a beat in position 2, you're spinning a hug.

hope that makes sense to someone smile

sj's - hugs in 'arms folded' position.

how to do an sj:

1. pretend you are a bouncer
2. spin your poi

wink

hugs don't require your arms to be 'tangled' whereas sj's do.

Question, what is different between cross-over and Huggie than?

Cause there have to be something, otherwise we are giving name for something that was allready given.

crossovers are 2nd degree wraps..

crossers, which is what I think you meant richee, are just reels done with arms in any degree above 0..

huggies are a particular type of crosser (or reel since the names overlap).. there area few other kinds too..

sj's can also be a type of crosser (or reel since te names overlap) but inverted.

Its much easier to have cross-overs and inverted cross-overs,

than Huggies and Straigh Jacket in my mind.

Thus, huggies done by women are the coolest poi move ever.

Funny stuff!! I've seen people do the "hug" move or whatever it's called, but I'm stil not sure how to do it....Hmmm...I will figure it out this weekend at the rave smile:):)

You can do a nice airwrap from a hugged/crossed position, actually if you time it right you can go into the airwrap in a hugged position, unwrap your arms, thus putting an extra turn in the airwrap and then exit with hands apart, I cant do it consistently though, one of my aims for this summer to tidy it up actually smile

This is an intruiguing conversation. Im starting to experiment with btb huggies and straitjackets, myself. While I can't quite manage either of these manuevers yet, I find myself already asking: ....

...Is it possible to do a behind the back straitjacket?

I mean, theoretically, sure. But has anyone actually managed it?
