So here I am again. It's been a while hasn't it. My alto sax initially got a lot of use. Funny isn't it, how a fulltime job takes away all your spare time. Haven't had any time to poi too, apart from Jugglejam on Mondays and the monthly Moonfests. And even then, it somehow seems I tend to play with the stockwhip instead of poi shrug

Another lens has been added to the stable too. A Canon EF-S 10-22 3.5-4.5.. nice and wiide. But it all boils back down to that time issue. Despite having the new lens, I seem to find I'm out taking less pictures.. the folio hasn't been updated in a while, and I'm starting to get the horrible feeling I'm stagnating. Must. Get out of this rut.

If you're my muse and reading this, inspiration needed now. hug

-Edited 14 Dec 2005-

I liken this to opening the fridge to find that jar of misc what's it, several months expired ubblol. Hey how's it going? wave

So what's new! Well.. poi's getting a bit better for one thing. Nice how after poi-ing for a while, you stop hitting yourself senseless. In fact, one might argue how after a certain point, each hit puts more sense into you.. wink Haven't gone skating or rockclimbing in a bit, but that's ok- life's full of wonderful distractions, and really, you can only do a couple at a time.

University's just wrapped up! Yep. A degree in art & visual culture, television & digital media.. Just waiting for a piece of paper at the moment (yay!). And trying to sort out how Australia will let me live here forever and ever biggrin. Have I mentioned how wonderful it is, you so ought to visit *nudge* wink Also been getting out the with photography and stuff- a couple of projects to follow up on, blue skies and puffy clouds as far as I can see.

Updates updates. [insert geek] I've updated my camera gear too.. my 20D, 17-85 4-5.6 IS and 580EX now have a 70-200 2.8L IS to play with.. soon too, riding on getting a particular gig, either a 350D and a 24-105 f4 IS, or another 20D.. -grin- [/end geek]

[edit 14/12/05: Gig didn't go through, and ended up performing at it instead of shooting it ubblol Life has a funny way of messing you about doesn't it.. so no 2nd body for me just yet, or nice 24-105 f4 IS redface]

Been taking lots of photos lately. I think there's something intrinsically beautiful in capturing moments- you know how you look at a photo and it brings you back to where you were that day, who you were with, how the air smelt even.. Maybe one day I'll get to exhibit ubblove.. but yeah.. lots of work to be done meantime.

Hmmmm.. yes the world's beautiful today. It's good to have new toys, new moves, new direction.. old friends hug.. a best friend hug2, and enough distractions not to get bored for too long.

Btw.. favourite words haven't changed.. ubbrollsmile And mm.. I'm still not too close to balletic, and dulcet..

Hmm.. la la la laaa squawk.. footinmouth

[edit 14/12/05: I now have a beautiful alto saxophone- the best use of which I have thus far found, is to attract ducks and other misc waterfowl]

Yep, how about we say still aspiring. biggrin

Hope all's well with everyone- don't be strangers now! hug biggrin

I've been exploring this site a bit lately, and have decided everyone seems like a nice bunch- thought it's about time I said hello. Ryan, 24, born in Singapore, but Brisbane Australia has been home to me for the past 3 years.

I love photography, playing the guitar (if one took a picture of me with my guitar, it looks like I'm playing it- does that count?), getting from point A to B on my trusty mountain bike, inline skating and hockey, occasionally rockclimbing, and just being in good company. I'd also like to add poiing to the list when I stop hitting myself senseless.

Irrelevantly, my two favourite words (I've got heaps if anyone's interested) are 'balletic' and 'dulcet'. 'Balletic', unfortunately, isn't a word I'd use to describe anything I can do, and 'dulcet' is a word I haven't dreamt of aspiring towards yet.

Enough for now, don't be strangers! biggrin

Petey: Hey sir! Two posts here and I still haven't replied... Am probably getting a bit slack sorry.. Been a bit busy running around the place lately.. you know. Rushing Lou around to see as much as a kitten could want to see. Though, at the moment, kitten's a lobster sunny ubblol Snorkelling does seem tend to wash off that sunscreen.. Anyway, hope all's well with you and getting back to school's some fun biggrin No getting into fights too. *shakes head*

mech: Good work with the flash.. what's the model/guide number? Ah.. I see you've finally found the Wasia hack biggrin Good stuff that. With regard to sensors, I doubt you could say 'higher quality chip' because it's not really. It depends how you shoot as well- if you're going to be doing significant cropping on your actual shots, you lose the full frame advantage, not to mention the fact that in such a scenario, the 20D's chip will give you a final shot at a higher res. It's not as straightforward as you might suspect.. Took a while for me to get my head around it too.

IS is a superb advantage in low light situations, but not necessarily always better.. in terms of actual MTF charts and optical performance, a steadied non IS lens usually outperforms a steadied IS lens. A good example would probably be the IS and regular versions of the EF 70 200 2.8L.. the non IS version has a lot less pieces of glass in it, so theoretically, less obstacles between the image and your sensor. I suppose it's just like why some people choose to stick with sharp primes instead of walking around with a big fat zoom.

Don't worry too about future gaps in coverage.. besides, the 17-85 doesn't mount on the 5D, you'd preferably with the EF24-105 f4L (which is a great lens per se) should you go full frame, but it's arguably not wide enough on the 20D.

About fps, 3 and 5 is a big difference.. If your subject's doing 4 seconds of motion, you're comparing 12 frames to 20 frames. But then this is also of varying importance depending on what you shoot.. Don't forget buffer size too and the actual filesize of fullframe images too. If you're going to be shooting 3 fps and keeping the mp on the 5D down just so that it doesn't fill the buffer too quickly, you'd be better off on the 20D.

jessops has some info, but don't forget the dpreview side by side and full reviews, the fred miranda forums, as well as potn. Anyway, sounds like you know what you're doing biggrin Keep us posted won't ya. It's all exciting! biggrin beerchug

Lou: Hey lobster, you are currently talking about powerboards with Miss gita while mopping the kitchen floor ubblol And I'll be hijacking your bathroom in about 5 minutes. wink hug

gita: Heya, you are currently hmm.. refer to above ubblol And you're about to grace jugglejam for the second time ever.. I really should get off the comp hey.. it's 7 eek hug

sparkey: The chance of you and Sam saying something to each other and having it resemble a conversation.. I wonder.. ubblol

hey, i hadnt thought of doing the floating rose. at the moment im gona be doing a blockhead act, followed by my squash racket thing, then ill lay down on glass and if i can take it, have someone stand on top of me. but, if the school wont let me do the third thing (cos of insurance or something) then i may well do the floating rose.

Pete: mm.. yes, a whole assembly watching you on stage wiggle some string might be very entertaining, but not in a way you'd want ubblol I'd probably pay a dollar just to watch a paper rose go up in flames to leave behind a real flower- forget the psychic wiggling bit even! wink smile

Fi: A fluffly marshmallow you say? ubblol Well, it probably still hasn't warmed up yet.. The cold is good though- company tends to get appreciated so much more. Brissie's quite humid these days. Summer's kind of going away and it's settling at a reasonable 20-30°c. A bit warm for my liking on the high end, but otherwise pleasant.

Yes, homesickness is part of it all- but if you were back here, you'd be dreaming of being there wouldn't you? You'll be right (wonder when the last time you heard that was..) wink Eitherway, not too much happening back home- same old same old. Though I've got my graduation ceremony coming up- my robe thing's going to be black and, get this, bright pink. Or new fuschia so they call it.. All the best people wear pink and black! biggrin ubblol

Pink and black are my favorate colours. I got teased the other day when I was hanging up my washing because every thing on the clothes airer was either pink or black or a combination of the 2.

I think if Medusa is feeling home sick that means we brits aren't doing enough to keep her entertained and too busy to even think of home. Don't worry Medusa, come the summer you won't have a day to call your own, what with Falmouth, BJC, EJC, BGG, Manchester/Bristol/Nottingham/Cambridge/etc meets, and all the festivals. hug You have a summer of fun to look forward to! sunny

Haven't been going to the twirling meets as it is too cold, and I am getting over a cold too. Trying to get all my photos off my camera at the moment which is taking forever cause I have sooo many.

Yes marshmallow, roats me over the fire and I turn all gooey! Mmmm....goo.

Yay festivals are good, that's one of the reasons I came over here.

And don't worry Ry you will look gorgeous in pink...make sure photos are taken.

Lou: Fuschia goes about as well on me as it does on you tongue! mm.. space.. Does feel a bit spacious. Somehow a lot of my garbage has picked up on this and has effortlessly resettled in various spaces. The livingroom floor for example. Gita'll tell you it's a mess! Not having glitter around is good- glitter is demon eggs ubblol Actually, we were at Bunnings yesterday, and saw the scariest thing- aerosol glitter eek! Imagine my horror ubblol Getting back on track, yes, things aren't too bad. A couple of projects to work on, a couple of visits to the post office required, some photos to get out, busy busy. Hope all is well and beautiful over your side, and that you're taking care of yourself wink hug ubbangel Btw. Sub of the day is a 6 inch grilled chicken on white bread, lettuce, tomato, onion, old english cheese, capsicum, carrot, no extra salt or pepper, sweet onion sauce. biggrin

Skully: Pink and black are great colours.. the combination would probably much better suit someone else though ubblol Such as yourself. biggrin Bink and Plack for academic dress though? Might have to see it to get an idea though. shrug That sounds like a bunch of festivals too. It's so not fair the amount of festivals you guys get to choose from!

Fi: Congrats on the straight A's! Any bonus to finishing the course with nothing but A's ubbangel? Yeah camera and downloading.. I've currently got a major storage problem to work out. Got a ridiculous amount of new photos, and nowhere to put them! The camera's been going a bit crazy lately, what with uberoz as well as a recent shoot. Need. more. storage. Regarding photos at the graduation.. hmm. Well, I suppose if anyone really wanted to come, they could take photos. Am thinking it's going to be a quiet affair. PS. Hope you're keeping your toes, fingers and ears toasty! hug

Lotje: You're very welcome biggrin.. why exactly?

Petri: I think it's possibly one of the nicer languages to listen to.. Do you really think it sounds ugly??

Well, English is a wonderful language. I like how words (neologisms perhaps?) seem to constantly be creating themselves to the language. You end up with a word for everything! Once had a conversation with an Indian friend of mine, and he was telling me that there weren't enough words to describe things, so much so they'd actually resort to maybe saying 'strawberry' or 'pigeon' in English, to refer to those things while talking in Tamil or Hindi. But yes. A word for everything.. Like 'aglet'- the plastic thing at the end of shoelaces?? How cool is that? ubblol I've been trying to remember what the word for the overflow hole in a sink is called, but can't for the life of me remember.. anyone?
