"Hello, and welcome to HOP.
Very fortunate to have spun with that crowd, they're some of the more typically fluffy bouncy kewl poi peeps.

It's Monday, my brain isn't working, but I'm sure I'll be back to make the tea or something later.
Have fun, Keep Smiling & Stay Green

Thanks, Smallboy!

I just want to do more and more poi!

Fire swords also sound pretty cool, though I have never seen them demonstrated.
Maybe I could combine the fencing and fire swords together.

Like peanut butter and fluff combine to make a Fluffernutter sandwich!

Ummm... wow =)

A top ranked epeeist on the board. Gotta say this is a suprise.

Welcome!

Though a question popped into my head after looking through your web page... whatever happened to Eric Sreki? His name seemed conspicuously missing from the fie rankings (yeah, its been a few years since I had a look at them).

Srecki retired right after the 2000 Olympics. In his last competition, France had a 2 touch lead going into the last relay, but Obry was unable to protect it as Rota (the Italian fencer) got 2 quick hits to tie the score.

That meant that the two fencers would fence for 1 hit to determine the 2000 Team Men's Epee Olympic Champions. Obry looked visibly nervous and got nailed about 15 seconds into the one minute of sudden death.

Probably TMI, but there you go.

I was sorry that he retired, since I only fenced Srecki once and that was a very long time ago.

Fine, I'll pick this one.

I will remember my promise. I always try to keep to them, so not to worry. As I haven't even seen fire sword yet, though...

Spinning tonight? I thought you were too busy during the week!

Ahhhhh.... so I knew something happened that summer while I had my head in the sand. I hadn't heard the story before, hardly too much information.

So, here is all the stuff that I originally posted on the "First Burn" thread. Hope this helps avoid any confusion.

---

Well, after spending the afternoon with some very patient spinners I met through this site, we all went down by the Seine where I lit up for the first time.
The sound is what I will remember most. That "whoosh" as the poi flies past my head is something nobody prepared me for.

I want to do more!

I spun with Cassandra, Dom, Ros, Dibs, Ros' man (whose name escapes me), and a very elegant spinner from Israel (whose name also escapes me)

Sorry about that, guys! I have a horrible memory for names. [Frown]

They were all really great. Warm and helpful. Considering that I had only just met them it made it easy to relax and just spin.

In terms of music? Well, its probably easier to tell you what I don't like:
Techno (and its offspring)
Rap (and its offspring)
Current Top 40
Country

Thats leaves alot of stuff. From Mike Oldfield, Enya and Enigma to old Van Halen, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Elvis, Mozart, Gregorian Chants, Medieval & Renaissance music.

I am always open to trying new stuff and new music, though.

I also love my Mac. (Ipods are pretty cool too!)

That "whoosh" sound IS just....sublime!

Hey, how about a t-shirt for spinners that simply says "Whoosh!" With sparks around it?

It might sell. [Smile]

Heh.

It might!

In the future, when in a group of spinners I'll just say "hey, you with the fire!"

I'm sure that'll work.

Somehow, that just sounds nuts.

Those glowstick poi are cool, especially since you can turn them on and off.

Hello and welcome

I see that you're a Rolling Stones fan. I like the Stones soo much that I have been to visit Brian Jones's grave.

What is SCA? What is your favourite colour? What books do you like to read?

Visiting graves of rockers never seemed like fun to me. On my first visit to Paris I was wandering around Pere Lechaise and there were quite a few people kneeling around Jim Morrison's grave with green dots on their foreheads chanting.
They were all pretty out of it and one of the guys was drinking Jack out of the bottle. It was an odd scene.

(of course, I'd like to go to Graceland one day, but thats different)

My favorite color is black...has been since I was about 8.

The SCA is a medieval/renaissance recreational group...the biggest and most widespread there is. They have a website (www.sca.org) and have feasts, festivals, tournaments, exhibitions, masked balls, etc.
It is great fun!

Anything else you'd like to know just ask.

In terms of books, I read all kinds of things: history, philosophy, theology, archaeology, mystery and sci-fi.

Stephen Rivelle, Paul Doherty, Plato, Machiavelli, Musashi, Takuan Soho and of course Shakespeare are among my favorite authors.

I'm meant to be spinning flags for a medieaval re-enactment group. But the lady that's making the flags keeps forgetting to actually make them. So it's not going so well.

it's nearly the end of the show season in this country. So it gives me the winter to practice n stuff.

the group are going to Brittany in the spring. They're going to fight the french. Should be exciting.

My brother fights in the bill line. it's full contact and quite nasty - but he wears lots of armour and it's flat blading (plus lots of other safety etc) only so it's not so dangerous.

I'm trying to set up a LJ account now (thanks to the help of Mistress thistle and her code supplying ways) so any advice would be welcome.

I feel so..used.
