I am currently seeking some new performance ideas as to possible stories that people have seen acted out with fire, and drama.

Any ideas are eagerly awaited....

i saw a great performance at burning man this year of a (evil?) fawn on stilts stalking an innocent girl through a fire forest.

its not simple ... but it was very effective ...

Assuming you're not going to use words, you need to use plot elements and themes that people can recognize--like PF said. You can also organize the piece around themes like the four seasons, four elements, etc.

If you have the luxury of working with a live band or a really good DJ, you can also use music to telegraph the emotional quality of a scene. Movies do this very effectively. Might be more difficult with a fire show where you want to keep up a danceable beat.

I just had a funny thought--imagine using title cards for dialogue, like in the old silent movies.

Ignis Devoco is doing one of those silent film style shows Adam, how funny you mention it.

Let's see...the greek myths (especially Persephone and Hades), the celtic myths, the story of the seasons, the wheel of the year, the tree of life, one of the tales of Anansi, two of Aesops fables, Romeo and Juliet-star crossed lovers type thing.... sooo many of these have been covered and almost to death.

Remember to use your whole body and facial features in the presentation to convey emotion. Poi alone is not enough, and the performance will fall flat if you rely on music solely. Music sets the mood, your reaction/action to it tells the tale.
