## newbie alert ##don't know if what i'm doing is really a windmill or not. What i'm doing is a " chase the sun " with a 180 degree seperation between poi , one pass in back with eachpoi , and one pass in front with each.( sure feals like i'm a windmill while doing it ). and that is what i should be doing according to "corksrew" ( in the poi leasons videos )... but the "windmill" video lesson shows 2 passes in back.. I just wanna know what is right.. do i have to get that 2nd pass.. every time i've tried i got my hands all twisted up.phart

What it sound like is that you have the down beats at the same time, but only one is in front, and one is in back. What you are doing is an alternate chasing the sun. To do a windmill, you have to have a 4-beat motion, where the downbeats follow each other in rhythm. It will go one beat behind you with one poi, then the next behind you with the other poi, then one beat in front of you with the first poi, then the fourth beat in front of you wih the second poi. Transfer this to a forward motion, just for explanation sake. If you were to just spin forward side circles, and then cross them and uncross them, that sounds like what you described. The motion you are looking for is to alternate the timing, so you are doing the figure 8 move (one beat less than a standard weave) Where two beats on each side are kind of chasing each other. That is the rhythm you need to have to do a windmill. Boom, Boom, (behind the back) Boom, Boom (in front)Chalk up a POInt for glowshow (licks his finger, and then draws a quick, imaginary line downward to the front, then arcs it back up over his haed, where it is joined by his other hand and goes into a complex quad-corkscrew to a 5-beat 360 to a leg wrap into an alternate Bfly combo)Oh, this has been discussed quite a few times already, so do a search for windmill. And that would be another point! grin (I'll save the melodrama this time!)------------------I feel more like I do now then I did when I got here.PLUR(RE) ---J---

yeap... perhapps i didn't describe myself well.. 4 beats going threw the whole pattern.still .. my main problem is then vid's.. if you ask me the vid (poi lessons ) on "corkscrew" looks like a horizontal vertion of a "chase-sun" only the second poi is half a circle behind - 180 degrees ??.then it goes on to say.. to do a windmill.. do a corkscrew in a vertical position.. gee.. isn't this a "chase sun" only 180 degrees behind ?? but this is not what the vid on "windmill" shows.. there are four beats behind the persons back and two in front.well.. i'm not going to say i'm doing a windmill untill i know for sure.. what i do know is that it is a variation on the chase... and i like to do it. i just wish there were someone around my city that could show me... oh well.. guese i'll have buy more videos...

Hey! didn't mean to be rude about the point thing.Chasing the sun is both poi behind for a beat, then both poi in front for a beat.Alternate chasing the sun is one poi in front, and one poi in back for a beat, then switch for the next beat, etc.A windmill is a split-time chasing the sun. And it sounds from the description that you just gave that you are doing it correctly. Once you get more comfortable with it, it will feel less awkward.BOING! grin------------------I feel more like I do now then I did when I got here.PLUR(RE) ---J---

Glowshow, if this is your fake newbie thread it is quite silly. All posts say that your IP is logged, therefore I guess that the Mods are able to tell where the computer is that the message came from.Hence if the IP is the same for both glowshow and 'phartbreath', then you are quite probably the same person. Also phartbreath registered today, has made 2 posts (both in this thread) and why on earth would anyone call themself 'phartbreath' it just wouldn't happen. Please make your next attempt at getting bonus points a little more believable..I'm sorry if 'phartbreath' is a real user, i just doubt it.Anyhow Point please for a very silly thread,And the men in white coats are on their way to Glowshow...Tom

Tom I assure you that me and glow are not the same person, look, he's from charlot, nc nad i'm from Willmar,MN.. aka nowheresville( why phartbreath ??.. well thats been my yahoo account for over 5 years now.. i use it on almost all new web accounts i start up couse i find that noone has chosen it already and i don't have to go threw a million name choises.. long story about how the name came to be too,, won't get into )also i point to the differant stiles of writing to prove that we are not the same.Glow.. i don't think you were mean at all.. in fact very helpfull ( one thing i have learned is that performers have a tendancy to be helpfull ) i've been monitoring many of the topics since last november when i first heard about poi.. and have just sat back and read post in order to learn more, insted of shooting off my big mouth asking stupid questions.. just asked this stupid question becouse the vidio is not clear on this issue and has been my only resource so far. my next resource would be the kind folks in the forum.. so i had to sign up for an account in order to ask. Which is why it shows 2 ( now 3 ) posts after just signing up )That alternating 'Chase' sounds neat too.. tried it a few times at work.. but my strings always semed to tangled up when i cross over my head ( unless i'm doing this wronge to ) seems to be just a spacing thing like a butterfly.Phart

And thanks, phartbreath. I am glad you appreciated my info. I usually try to be helpful if I have the opportunity, even though it is scattered with sarcasm and wit.And yes, it is just the spacing. They are all variations of the same movement, you just have to get used to working with different timings.Glad to help! grin------------------I feel more like I do now then I did when I got here.PLUR(RE) ---J---

@ helv, err no butterfly has split direction, windmill has same direction splittime.
a windmill is nothing than a 2 beat weave (1 circle left 1 right) and then body turning 90 degrees and doing it overhead (you can also do that around the hip = hipmill :-) ), train with 1 hand, then 2 hands poi chasing each other=splittime ... not too dicfficult and beautiful.
