i made it a while ago, and when i read 'Make a desktop relevant to the arts' i considered that accounted for visual/digital arts as well :S I'll be happy to take it down if 'The Arts' was meant to be something about fire twirling, and still just vote tho ^___^

I'm guessing you could make a background with Sock Poi from Mal's wording, although that could look less dramatic than LEDs or fire toys

Well, in my view a desktop background is not just a photo (although other people seem to disagree, judging by the entries).
I assume that LazyAngel is talking about taking a photo and modifying it in order to actually make a desktop background. Not just put a photo up.

yes I am modifying it - quite a lot - only a small portion of the original photo is used - and it's a photo of me (not that you could tell!)
