Greetings,

I just starting poi spinning and thought I'd make myself known around here as I will most likely be needing help with my new found love. weavesmiley

I made my very own set of fire poi just 30 minutes ago (The wicks and handles only came in the post this morning). They are a lot different to spin then the other ones I made (Shoe laces taped to juggling balls ubblol, yes I know I'm cheap tongue).

I have a couple of questions that I'm burning to ask (pun intended biggrin) and I hope they'll be answered soon in the help section.

About a week in my spare time ubblol. So yes I'm very new to it. And yes I've hit myself in the back of the head about 40 times now tongue. And no I'm not going to light my fire poi till I get some experience with it.

Oh and I also decided to read a lot of the threads in the help section instead of pissing people off with a new thread about the same old stuff. So I think I'm off to a good start anyway. But I have one quick question that I don't really want to make a whole other thread for.

How long should the chains be?

I've been hearing that they should be down to your elbow (from your hand of course), but I see in videos on you tube that when people are spinning the wicks are hitting the ground (and leaving small burning patch's). From what I can gather though, hit the wicks off the ground (and other things) isn't really the best idea.

Oh and a question for Splinterific or any other Irish spinner. Are there any weekly "Jams" where a bunch of spinners get together and spin and teach newbies (A.K.A. me) the ropes etc?

Many thanks for your warm welcome!

Go look at the store. Somewhere they have a picture of how to measure for the length of chain. Personally the length of my chain is holding the poi head in my hand and the tip of the handle is about mid-chest. Most people consider that short, but then I have short arms.

I have several large jars of the stuff. I actually like it... a little. And don't tell anyone I admitted to it.

Hi,
Some of the main fish caught here are mackerel, cod, pollock, trout, pike. And some of the not so commonly fished, fish are things like squid and shark.

And once again thanks for the warm welcome all.

Thank you, Thank you!

And I've found a comfortable length for my chain. weavesmiley Which is half way between my elbow and my chest. I don't know if thats short, but I know its not long wink.
