i bring you...DUN DUN DUUUUN!!
the "Atomic-Antispin-Butterfly-Buzzsaw-Flower-Fountain"

now i cant do it, and i don't know anyone who can....but i wanna open the challenge up to the world and see if any of you can do it!!

My first thoughts would be no, as I would imagine that flowers and fountains are mutually exclusive. .

you should add isolated and hybrid in there, just for luck.

I think an atomic-antispin-buzzsaw-fountain would be do-able, theoretically, as would an Atomic-Antispin-Butterfly-Flower,
maybe even the Atomic-Antispin-Butterfly-Buzzsaw-Fountain, get to it mcp, I've seen you poi now wink

surely if it's atomic you have to use crane and spider instead of butterfly and parallel? I dunnoe, bloody atomic shenanigan.

Atomic-Antispin-Butterfly-Buzzsaw-Isolated-Flower

or

Atomic-Antispin-Butterfly-Buzzsaw-Hybrid-Fountain

and where's the poi game when you need it? You could add UTL or BTB or BTH or Hugs as well as Quarter-Time or Split-Time or Same-Time to all that, as well as polyrhythm to it too, for completeness sake.

right first problem with that move (like meg says) is that how do you define butterfly when your in atomic? its fine when both your poi are in the same plane, as then a butterfly is when the poi are moving in oppostite directions. this dosnt work when the planes are at 90 degrees though... so butterfly and atomic are mutally exclusive and are types of plane configuration... also im with matty b and reckon flowers and fountains are mutally exclusive to. so yakumos post is pretty much correct except for the last bit.

Errrr, how would you spin an atomic buzzsaw ? seems to me that your arms would get in the way. Is this where " clash" atomics come in ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Antispins are isolated to some degree so calling it isolated seems redundant. Antispin-buzzsaws are basically antispin-flowers, again redundant.

Throwing hybrid-atomics or antispin-tangles into the mix could be interesting...

re atomic buzzsaw: hold out arms so they meet at a right angle , spin right poi inside left arm in a plane paralle to it. spim left poi inside right arm in a plane paralle to it. or just do a buzzsaw and unfold it so it becomes an atomic.

could you have: Atomic-Antispin vs Isolation Hybrid- Buzzsaw- Flower/Fountain/BTH/BTB/BTL

(/=or)

i.e one hand doing antispin and one isolations in an atomic Flower or Fountain

I think slightly more possible:
Wallplane-Butterfly-Antispin vs Isolation Hybrid- Buzzsaw- Flower

I was wondering about that, I was just assuming it would be classed as butterly if the poi started off in opposite directions. I don't actually know how to do any atomic tricks (yet! smile ) other than doing a regular butterfly then offsetting one 90 degrees.

Antispin-buzzsaws are basically antispin-flowers

I'd always thought of buzzsaw tricks as both hands staying close together, ideally, but I'm sure someone will say not necessarily, with the poi spinning inside the arms, and flowers needing considerably more motion with the arms moving in-time or split time, but opposite.

thanks oli...I never thought of doing that with a buzzsaw, and I'll work on getting it less dorky feeling, today, 'cause it's something I can actually practice inside. Damn 40 days and 40 nights of rain.

lazy angle, what do you mean when you say vs? one hand doing one bit of it and the other hand the other bit?

if so then the second bit dosnt make make much sense as how dose one hand do a butterfly, or hybrid on its own?

your one hand doing antipin and the other isolations while in an atomic flower sounds totally possible though if a little confusing.. rolleyes

ah what I meant was one hand doing isolation and one hand doing antispin: I consider a hybrid to be a mixture of any moves of the longarm/isolation/antispin/etc. variety whether done in weave or butterfly.

I added antispin vs isolation for extra clarification: I usually use x vs y when describing hybrids, cos it helps me to remember what the two seperate parts are:

I mean a butterfly antispin hybrid could be a few things but if I say butterfly longarm vs antispin hybrid that is just a lot clearer to me

so you could read it as: Atomic-(Antispin vs Isolation) Hybrid- Buzzsaw- Flower/Fountain/BTH/BTB/BTL : hope that's a bit clearer?

Also adding vs lets me get another two letters in tongue

On the subject of the move, I find that if you can manage to turn 360 degrees constantly while doing your anti-spins you could call that a fountain. Then you might be able to pull it off. I can't manage the turn of the fountain part, but i think the other stuff is can easily be done, assuming I understand what an atomic spin is which I'm pretty sure I do.

Poi the game rules

It's the only reason I pick up poi these days. I am proud to say I was in the room at it's inception, I wrote out the original cards (though the real input was from Garthy and Sandy) and played the first game.

I won't ruin Garthy's grand unveiling of the cards and rules by explaining too much, but it's a great game. It makes you try mindtwisting moves that no sane man would attempt, it makes you think about things you never would have considered possible and it provides endless amusement for the spectators.

Well, it's all a bit moot, as the longest poi name is surely:

Turning isolated antispun split-time-arm 3-to-1 polyrhythm long-arm/short-arm butterfly flower with inverted cross points?

Which is possible tongue

Hmmm, having tried to be a smart arse and film this, I have to say the "isolated" part is a killer.
