So in the total of 7m 32s I was spinning at BoB, I spent most of it watching G (Flaming Deity) doing cool things with 1.5's and some other people have been playing with them too, so thought I'd expand a little on other variations people are playing with
[Old link] for basic 1.5s and some variations
"Wrong arm"
Same as a basic 1.5, but the "wrong" arm does the pendulum. e.g. Fwd 1.5, but the right arm does the pendulum on the left hand side of the body
...leads into...
1.5 Fig 8's (Or something)
If you've got basic and "wrong arm" 1.5's - spin them alternately in wall plane - a bit like a TTN motion with more vertical change (well, your arm does a fig-8)
BTB 1.5's
Same motion as btb weave - but 1.5'd
Waist-wrap 1.5's
Same motion as ww weave - but 1.5'd
BTB-BTH
As in the BTH version in the video, but the "1" is BTB. Tricky (I think)
1.5 flower wierdness.
If you've got the split-time arm antispin butterfly wall plane flower (Or "Stuart" for short
) - the point where the 2 circles meet in the middle and whoosh across sets you up into a 1.5 (or double parallel stall if you fancy). It can then be mixed into a 1.5 fig 8 thing then wooshed back the other wayAny others?

me being stupid... what are 1.5s? Can't watch the vid here at work or I'd go and find out! And search only comes up with your threads and "I've made my own poi for 1.50"

Well, each hand does one and a half spins (i,e, full spin and a pendulum) - when spun in certain patterns, the heads come together and form a pretty pattern
For the basic idea, in wall plane spin one poi down low and the other hand above it (so when the bottom poi is vertically up, the top poi is hanging down there's a small gap between them) doing a pendulum - every 2 beats, the poi heads sync up and come together
For a 1.5 pattern, when one hand does a beat, the other does a pendulum - then they switch. The "tricky" bit is the poi shouldn't change direction - e.g in wheel plane fwd one beat, pendulum across the body, then fwd at your side again

hmm: well playing around with these has led me to something new: maybe a variation on the fig 8s (i'm not really sure what those are)
Kind of like moving the top arm with a pendulum while stalling upwards with the bottom arm so you end up with something that looks a bit like an isolation. Then move both hands to the opposite side to the bottom arm, keeping the hands an equal distance and maintaining the 'isolation' for as long as possible. The poi heads should be near to your hands.
Don't know if that makes much sense...
Kind of like a wallplane 1.5 but with the heads near your hands, you use the momentum of the move to maintain the upwards stall for longer..I think I need to make a video..

The wall-plane fig-8's don't have any upside-down stalls in it..
Could make a video of the above variations if people like...

is this similar to the thread the needle type deal with a stall every other spin so the hand thats stalling keeps switching so you never actually do a complete TTN rotation. if it is... and anyone actually understands my horrible description, that maneuvers a pain and I'm glad to hear that someone gave it a name? cause I was just calling it alternating stalls.
I'll get there too late if I shorten my stride, I'll get there too soon if I find me a ride, I'll never move forward if I try to hide this path that I've troden one step at a time.

simple pendulum weaving, the other long arm varia-
tion from Redcat in Spinnach sessions.
This move require good timing and proper pen-
dulum, but I got what you meen.

Ish...but they're not stalled and they don't change direction - e.g. your both hands will always spin anti-CW or CW - just with a pendulm between each one.
Richee - I thought gilligans were always stalled?

Pete- Gilligan is just the poi hanging- no swing at all.
I've been thinking of a particularly OTT idea of working with the look of a 1.5 (eg the heads moving or 'pointing' toward one another.
What I thought was- how about stalling one poi straight up infront of you and the other being released in wallplane over the top. If you got the timing spot on and got the thrown pois rotation just so, you would get a lovely effect as the one poi tumbled over the stalled head of the other.
Make sense?
This is purely theory right now- I haven't had the space to have a go since I thought it up last night, just before bed.
So, not really a 1.5, but inspired by

I get it, I think: like a 'stand' over an upward stall?
I'm not sure if the thing I talked about earlier is 1.5 or not: I mean is a 1.5 a trick where the heads both move in a straight line in an angle perpendicular to the arms, or is it a any trick where one poi is penduluming and the other poi is spinning?

I've been playing with these quite a lot, they're fun!
I've been doing a variation that I've been calling "Thread the Pendulum" (I think this is what Jaero is talking about a few post back), seems to fit. Do an outwards thread the needle, and with the hand on top, stall out to the opposite side, and bring the poi back across the top of the other hand in a pendulum motion. As it gets to the other side, drop it back under the other hand and go back into thread the needle. The other hand should be on top at this point, so just repeat with the other hand.
The idea is to time it so the poi doing the penulum across the top crosses the poi doing the circle at the bottom in the opposite direction right in front of you.
It helps to isolate the poi doing the circle at the bottom of the pattern. Can be done inwards or outwards (I find outwards much easier), and turned in the same way as turning with a normal thread the needle. I'll try and get a video going at some point... Have fun!

I've worked on these for a while. Somehow these make much less sense to me then polyrythm , however I still tried something today. Mixing polyrythm with 1.5. Say when one hand is doing two beats, polyrythmic and the other one does a half. Does that Make it 2.5 ???
Same thing I tried doing 1,5 using variable arm as you can do with polyrythm. instead of variable speed ( pendulum ) like, as in what you do normally with 1.5s... Right ??? Anyhow no huge sucsess, it just looks funky.
