Hi fellow fire enthusiasts,

I sing in a glam metal band where I blow and twirl fire regularly, but I wanted to spice it up even more by adding colored flames... does anyone know how to do this without dying of fatal chemicals?

Thanks!
Myke

hello and welcome to HoP.
chemicals make the fire burn a lot hotter, so don`t even think about blowing cloured flames.. If i`m wrong i hope someone will correct me

Don't ask me, blowing is way too dangerous. Just the thought of accidently swallowing a mouth full of fuel stops me from even trying.

hi! welcome to HoP!

I'd have to agree with the others, putting fuel in your mouth's bad enough, let alone mixing it up with horrid chemicals... besides, it would taste terrible.

Other than that, tell us more about yourself! we're a nosey bunch.

Never put the chemicals needed to make coloured fire in your mouth... they are poisonous.

even if the chemicals weren't that bad (some of them wouldn't be all that bad but I won't say which, cause then some fool will go and try the others, too), they don't dissolve in paraffin but in methylated spirits, which you shouldn't be breathing in the first place...

having to use methylated spirits when using colors, you would then be puttin methanol into your mouth. as wikipedia just told me methanol can cause blindness via destruction of the optic nerve. the usual fatal dose is 100 - 125 ml, thats only 4 shots worth. it gets you very drunk through absorbtioan at first, followed by much worse syptoms after 10 - 30hrs which may eventuate to death.

this is all of course coming from an internet source, so it may not be 100% accurate, but those are pretty scary effects anyway.

cheers, pete hug

thanks for all the welcomes!

And the unfortunate info... I guess this is why I've never heard of anybody blowing coloured flames... One thing I did try was glueing these green 'magic' rocks that make fire blue and green to a torch, then lighting it with kerosene and waiting for it to turn blue, then blowing kerosene on it. then i realized it just burns orange again because of the kerosene being blown on it... So I guess it can never be done... But I'm still open to suggestions from fellow fire blowers!
