Sorry another war one I'm afraid I just wanted to ask what everyone would do if they were drafted?
Would you be happy and proud to fight against Iraq (or other terroist states) would you refuse? How do you think you'd feel?

Sorry if i get carried away, this is something that i feel very strongly about.

Never in a million, billion, trillion years would i fight for this bag of shit known as Britain.
What?? I'm gonna go to war to fight for the freedom of all the junkies, all the lazy arse tw*ts that can't be arsed to get a job, all the immos, and the general scum bags that i encounter on a Daly basis.
No, i don't think so.

To fight for something you have to believe in it, and i don't believe in this country, it's on a slippery slope to self destruction.
If the people that i encountered every day had the same attitudes and mentality's that the people here have, i'm sure that it would be a very different story, but sadly they don't, the people i encounter are 9 times out of 10, moronic, ignarent narrowminded t0$$3rs who think far to much of them selves....Tell me, are they worth fighting for???????

**(But i may reconsider when i here that Blair and monkey man Bush are fighting in the trenches, but lets face it they are a couple of nancy boy, de-creped old fools who are out of tough with the world and wouldn't know their arse from their elbows, so i couldn't see that ever happening)**
As a very wise man once said:

Mmm. Those lucky WW1 conscripts got loads of free acid and amphetamines.

Of course there was the downside of the shrapnel and 'walking slowly toward enemy machinegun emplacements to instill the fear of god in them'. The Generals were clearly taking some pretty mindbending substances themsleves.

from what i've read and heard, all the guys that were drafted in the past wars were just busy trying to safe their own asses
if there was someone predictibly trying to attack my family and freedom then i would ever so fight

other than that i'm all for boxing matches between world leaders (on acid ?) LOL

Why?

whooooops,my mistake. That'll teach me for posting half-remembered demi-factoids

The average British Tommy in WW1 was supplied with a number of substances that are now illegal recreational drugs. Acid wasn't one of them (LSD first being formulated in the thirties) however they did have Amphetamines, cocaine and MDMA.

Reports of soldiers going on crazy rampages after taking coke were apparently instrumental in it being made illegal.

Opened it, read it, said they were suckers...

I should really get my Tricky albums out more.

Anyway, I have no idea what I'd do if I were drafted. I do object to war, but if things are getting desperate enough to start drafting people, I don't think I could really justify myself avoiding it.
I know I'd try to stay off the front lines though, try and get a support post of some kind.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Here is an interesting thought for you. If hypothetically they did bring in conscription, would they even consider conscripting women?

I'm so insulated from a draft, it's almost funny. Let's see: leaving aside the fact that I have ADHD and take a psychiatric medication, I also have a bad back.

Oh, and they don't draft med students. They wait until we're doctors.

Now, if they wanted to put me into the service as a doctor, I would be OK with that. I don't support the war, but I have to say that refusing to provide medical care on that basis would be even more unethical than supporting the war by working.

Having said that, I strongly oppose the draft unless it can be clearly demonstrated that there is a direct and immediate threat to national security that can be obviously solved by increasing the size of the military. An attack by a foreign military on our mainland or an apparently uncontained series of attacks by a foreign power on our allies (i.e. if, say, Russia started invading Finland) would be an acceptable reason. Some third-rate dictator (Ok, so Saddam is actually very good at being a dictator) on the other side of the world does not warrant a draft and I would probably dodge it. In fact, I'd probably move to another country and be done with it.

In WWII, I would have been lining up to offer my services. But not for this. We did just fine in the Gulf War without a draft and we don't need one now. We'll go right through Iraq like a hot knife through butter and I predict that the only NATO casualties will be friendly fire.

Anyhoo... yes Rozi they would conscript women maybe not at first but they would. Women are not required to sign up for the draft though.

I really cant answer any questions about what I would do hehe I am not in that situation.

If you do dodge the draft, get out of the US and any country that supports the US or get ready to make reservations at Levenworth!

indeed tricky did use this on his album, as has blak twang (red letters).

like you say though - its probably been quoted (at least in part) in a whole load of songs since chuck wrote it.

back to the topic though - i think i'd take prison over this war.
its less about trenches, getting shot and sh*tting yourself and more about the effects of chemical weapons and dirty bombs on a person...

in short, if the draft happens, i'll quote chuck to them too

i always thought that they would never put women in wars because of hyiegne (sp?) well thats what i thought.... which does make sence really... if a war goes on for months and chicks are fighting in it- i doubt they'll give us time off to take our pill or take 5mins every 4-6 hrs to change our pads/tampons! but u never know... males do start these wars and really dont know anything about "that time of the month" so they probly wouldnt care...

das jus my opinion.

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go. It don't seem fair. Today just disappeared.

Well in Canada there arn't any rules like that. We have women in infantry and some of our best fighter pilots are women

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird, now the world is weird and they take prozac to make it normal again.

yeah... but thats kinda different...

at least when flying a plane you can stop back at the ship/base when u come back and do a quick dunny stop... in the pits in the war front u cant really do that.

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go. It don't seem fair. Today just disappeared.

What a load of bollocks. They make it clear from the tampon ads that you can use the product and ride bikes & even horses, swim, dance under broken water mains, surely you can fight a war?

I kinda wonder if it isn't a little bit of a cop-out on our part sometimes. Women know that they are unlikely to be put into combat situations, unlikely to be recruited. We are somehow protected. Even when we argue for equality pull out the "equal but different" argument on this one. We pull out the same tired excuses that have been used to prevent women from reaching positions they want in other fields, in order to avoid doing something that is dirty and dangerous.

Kind of similarly to the way it is viewed to hit a woman. Now I'm not saying it is ok to hit anyone but if a woman hits you first it's amazing that some still think it is wrong to hit her back.

Haven't there been studies to prove that women fight more aggresively than men?You know the "mommy" instinct.

It is unfair for men to hit women because men are much stronger than women. If a woman was to throw her best punch at a man it is unlikely to even leave a mark, except for the dent in male pride. However, if a man were to throw his best punch at someone it likely to break the recipients jaw/nose/cheekbones. Whilst it is undeniably bad for anyone to hit anyone, in my opinion, it is doubley so for someone with much greater strength to be hitting a weaker person.

I am a tall and physically strong woman but when an ex boyfriend decided to hold me down by my throat whilst he punched me there was nothing I could do to stop him, thus demonstating the inequality in our strengths. I was covered from head to toe in bruises and it is only because of the skill of a great team at the hospital than I can breathe through my nose at all, and my ex never had a mark on him even though I fought back as hard as I could.

That is my 2p's worth on that subjust, sorry for hijackng the call up thread.

Incidentally, if everyone who was called to war refused to go, would the war still be able to go ahead?

Are we nearly there yet?

Thistle I can see that you misunderstood me.If you want equality than you got it. If you hit me first ,than depending on who you are,the likeliness is great that I will hit you back.If you don't want to be hit than you should think about that before you hit someone no matter who they are. Not saying you did that ,just clarifying my feelings.

As for your ex,hearing stories like that makes me ashamed to be a man. Let me add that I will only hit or wrestle back to neutralize a situation not to prove I can beat the tar out of someone smaller than me.In my opinion someone should hold him down and beat him to a pulp so he can see how it feels to be powerless to someone else.

On behalf of all REAL men on this planet,I apologize.

(I know my opinion on this looks really bad but so you all know I am not a woman hater nor am I of a violent nature.I haven't been in a fight since I was in grade school.)

What!

If you hit a woman, even if she hit you, then you got big problems...and should probably ask questions like
1. hmmm...where did my Manhood and manners go .....?
2. "She started it" hmmm... Am I acting like a child ?

....I have gotten my share of slaps and female fist's in my face but hit back?....never!
