Posted: This thread is in the wrong section- hopefully a mod will move it.
As for customs tax, there's been a couple of threads on stuff coming into the UK.
The upshot is that often it gets in with no tax/charges, but sometimes it does attract the attention of customs and will be taxed.
It seems fairly random whether a particular delivery will actually get taxed.
Officially, all non-gift items are subject to tax- there is a customs site up which, theoretically, can be used to predict how much the import tax will be.
Here's the link to the HOP shop FAQ that covers this issue-

Posted: so is the 17.5% tax included in the price of the item or is the customs tax a tax from new zealand?

The customs tax, if applicable, is an import duty, not VAT!
I think.

You can contact the Home of Poi staff directly with questions regarding orders, taxes, etc... as they know all about it.
However I'll briefly clarify that Home of Poi is based in New Zealand so doesn't charge UK VAT or import duty as all this taxing is done by the UK government. Any tax demanded by the UK government is your responsibility to handle and pay any import duties. If the UK import guys do decide to tax your item they'll send you a letter directly to your door.
