Yes it is a desert, but I think Reno is at a higher elevation, really close to the Sierras and that is how we get snow. It gets colder than a witch's teet during the winter. And snowboarding is the only good thing about snow.

There are snowbal fights as well, they are mucho funo
That makes sense if it is really close to the Sierra mountains, I just didnt know there was much to NV besides LV and desert.
When i get fit i want to try otu all terrain boarding and kite boarding, then maybe progress onto snowboarding
