As for your first question, "Dubai" and "cheap" aren't usually two things I often hear in the same sentence, sorry!

Well thanks to Firetramp, I've discovered www.couchsurfing.com and that looks wicked! Sounds right up my street since I've probably had 100 people couchsurf through my place in the last few years! And there's people in Dubai on it! So I'm all happy and even more confident all will work out great... Thanks so much for your offer Sym, I will certainly take you up on that should I go Cambridge way. hug

Chances are that when I not in London I will be spending more time in the West/North though...

Gabe! Hello hello!

I would absolutely *love*!!! to tour around with you a bit in Ireland! I can not wait to meet you,--several of our friends have crossed paths already...

It will be so much fun!

I am not firm about my dates yet, so have not worked out too many travel/ sleep arrangements. All I know is I want to fit in around two weeks in Scotland before or after the EJC, a week London/Brighton , and the rest Ireland around the workshops and a bit o'exploring. So, the UK for around four and a half weeks I think. Short, but sweet...

Lets meet!
smiles,
Andrea

Hi Gabe!

For Dubai check out the old city, where the river separates the two near the sea, east of the CBD. (ride an abra across but dont pay more than 2 dirham)

There you'll find the old gold souk and all the cheap markets, streets and streets and alleyways and gutters full of shops, carts, traders and swindlers smile
remember to try the fruit smoothies, everywhere and really yummy!

All alot cheaper and more fun than the gianormous shopping malls or ultra expensive jumeira beach resorts and clubs.

Enjoy your travels! I'm off to europe for an undefined amount of time myself, couchsurfing.com looks like just what i need! but more of that in another thread.

Clavey:
not sure if *man* is how you friendly type talk to everyone, but I'm actually a ladyperson, man!

Andrea: I may be heading off to Glade before the EJC even ends... and in any case going to Linz for the pflasterspektakel (sp?) on the 18th so won't be tripping round Ireland afterwards... but possibly a bit before? Will go to PLAY if and when it actually happens, then to visit a friend in Cumbria then... run out of dates!!

Mojojo: indeed m'dear, how amazing to see you from Perth on that hilltop in Qld and then in Ireland!!

Pyroptix: thanks for the words! SOunds like our paths will cross for sure somewhere!

ooh time is flying... 71 sleeps!

So I know I'll be well sorted when I get there... next issue is getting from EJC to wherever Glade is in a hurry...location being secret cos of security is all and good, but it would be nice to know where I have to buy a plane ticket to, while there's still a chance to get one cheap confused

For Dubai... well... back in the old days when I was on internet chat thingies a guy called Mohammed, a bank management person in Dubai, tried to get me to come and live with him. Though he's quite ugly, so I wouldn't recommend him (plus it might be difficult to write to all Dubai banks and ask if there's a Mohammed working for them!) tongue

Come to the Fringe, and stay for the Scotland Invasion (date to be announced, but definitely August!!)

Thanks for the advice Birgit! Since this morning I am sorted for Dubai.. a nice English woman via Couchsurfers... though apparently CS site is blocked in UAE confused
Competition with hotels? Promoting immorality confused

As for Edinburgh.. I would like to come, however Bulgaria has popped up.... and that is just next door to Turkey, a lifelong ambition (it's a music thang). SO I am leaving August somewhat fuzzy...
Do I see you somewhere else Birgit? PLAY? EJC? hug

UebEurope I think biggrin Quite likely since I will be getting about 1000 pounds worth of pay rise back-payments (from since September...!!!!!!) soon biggrin biggrin biggrin bounce

Can't make Play for mum's 60th birthday in Germany, and I'm away from work so much this year that I think the EJC would be very difficult frown

But yeah, UebEurope should be fine, and if not, it's a bit more than a year and I'll hopefully be Dr. Birgit and spend a lot of time and money travelling Oz and Kiwiland, so I'll probably see you then anyways ubblol
