Hop's Smallest Member

Hello, my name is Enea Sebastian Walklate. I am just over a month old now but I am not aloud to go home with my mommy and daddy just yet, My daddy is PK and my mommy is Sere. I have to stay in the hospital where I stay warm in my incubator. I was born on the 14th January 2006 at 6.24pm at the Versilia Hospital in Viareggio Italy.

My daddy says that I'm a little special because I was born 10 and half weeks premature and I only weighed 1kg 70gms (2lbs 7oz). But I lost 60gms in my first day, now I am making progress and weigh 1kg 600gms but the other day I had my first three blood transfusions to make me better but now I do not breathe so well on my own, the doctors must to monitor me closely. I don't eat so well because I have an infection in my intestines so the nice nurses feed me through a drip in my arm, I don't like the tube they keep putting in my nose, I try to pull it out when it agitates me, it makes my nose sore. I don't have to have the monitors on my chest any more. I think the doctors and nurses got fed up of me pulling them off hehe. My incubator monitors my breathing and heart rate, supplies my oxygen and provides heat and humidity.

I was born so early because I almost didn't survive in side my placenta because there was a broken vein that was stopping me from growing and the placenta was so small and broken I couldn't survive any more inside. The nurses were monitoring me for 2 weeks before to make sure that I was going to be born ok because mommy was in a lot of pain with me inside and had many problems for 7 months, but when I stopped breathing inside my mommy's tummy they made my daddy rush mommy to theatre so they can give me life in the real world.

I want that my daddy can hold me but he can't right now until I'm a month old, so I have to make do with him changing me and holding my hands when I'm inside my incubator.

My grandma and granddad came to visit me from England when I was a week old, but I didn't see them, they are not aloud to enter inside the room where I sleep (too much!). They had to watch from the window for only 30 mins but my eyes were not opening properly. That is all the allocated time a day that they allow people when they visit me and my roomies. I am the first baby in the new hospital that was born at 29 weeks and 5 days, ok I’m little but my friend she was born a month before me and was born 8 weeks early but she was only 900gms, the doctors are very good to keep us alive as they are doing, because they have never had babies so small as us. My friend, she has many problems like mine but because she is so much smaller still than me she is finding it hard to grow, her mommy and daddy are always at the hospital and like to check on me too. The hospital priest came by just after I was born he said that we were miracle babies and said a little prayer for us and blessed us.

I hope that my progress will continue so that I can come home, I have lots of presents that I want to wear, my daddy says that I have so much stuff that I will look cool for at least a year, I even have a little coat just the same as daddy's.

If I make it ok and can go home, I will have to stay in my room for a month before I can go any where just to make sure that I don't get any illnesses, but I cant wait to visit granny and granddad in England when my daddy's work closes for holidays in November. I hope that I will be home before the summer season when my daddy will have to work more hours, I would like to spend some time with him, mommy will stay with me till September when she will look for a new job.

Well I hope you will all say a little prayer for me and cross your fingers that I grow up and stop having these problems, I would like to have a normal life despite being so little. I hope that after my 4th blood transfussioni will breathe ok on my own and I'm sure daddy will write on my progress for me, I had to dictate this because my fingers are less of a centimetre long and I don't have the strength to press the keys.

Maybe daddy will finish his juggling video this summer and have me as the lead roll too, cos he's a little out of practice having spent so much time between work and the hospital.
