So, hello there, everyone! wavehello

Have been checking out HoP for a while, ordered some exellently made and delivered stuff, and recently registered and posted some replies, so I figure the polite, and fun thing to do, is introduce myself!

My name is August, though I go by Gusti, mostly.

I have been around for a while, since '71, born in Germany, grew up in Austria, left at 17, traveled, at first mostly North and Central America, later Asia, gathering all kinds of experience and broadening my horizons, and settled a few years ago in Bali. Spend most of the year here, summers in Europe, usually on a small island near Sicily, that is possibly the most firy in the world....

Encountered poi with a personal impact ( I am not counting the Luau in Hawaii, somehow then it didn't occur to me that I could do that) for the first time in '97, seeing a guy from New Zealand spin poi at a trance party in Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand, Decided it was for me and asked him for a bit of instruction, which he gave willingly and well, and I was off to good start.

Started with poi, and being inspired the year after that by the plethora of good performers I saw at Glastonbury festival, picked up double staffs. Not to mention contact juggling spheres...

Would say I am pretty proficient with poi and double staffs, though not as good as I could and should be, considering how long I've been at it. Got a fare share of moves, am still trying to get the 5Beat weave backwards, and only recently discovered flowers, made some half-assed attempts at airwraps and/or hyperloops. Though reading all these awesome threads has been really inspiring, and I plan to catch up...

Do occasionally play for pay, though I wouldn't say I'm a professional. It's not for lack of bread, like the Grateful Dead....

What else can I say, as you may have already guessed I like to travel, connecting with people from all over the world, festivals and celebrating life. Also enjoy a good book ( Tom Robbins, Jeff Noon, R.A. Wilson, Vonnegut, Bradbury, Kesey...) or film ( Burton, Fellini, Ken Russel, Foreman, Tarantino, Linklater, Rodriguez,...), love good live music (as in made by people playing musical instruments, with or without electric amplification), scuba diving ( am actually an instructor) and live to dance.

Tolerate Trance music due to love for the people and scene, though I much prefer Rock, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, HipHop, Indian classical or any kind of good music made by people playing together.... smile

Consider a good double familia sized Mexican hammock one of the crowning achievments of civilized man (together with the hot bath, though there we are just copying nature) and as one of the most necessary and desirable posessions. Next to good firetoys...

Love nature in most of her manifestations, fascinated by vulcanoes and powerspots, ley lines and stone circles and things like that, am into the old religions, Hinduism, Paganism and worship the Goddess in all her incarnations (particularly red haired ones... wink

)

Am a sucker for mind expansion and a devout follower of Herr Hoffman, bless his heart. ubbloco

Don't like authority and people telling other people how to think, detest violence in all it's manifestations. frown

Am also an eclipse chaser, and can only recommend the experience of a total solar eclipse to anyone.

Ohh, I want to see some firesculptures there and am looking for information and advice on how to make them, so I can make sure there are some! If you have anything on that, please contact me!

What else can I say, prefer cats to dogs, the beach to the mountains, smoke to drink, girls to boys, sunshine to rain (though rains cool too, unless you want to play with fire...) Like greens, browns, oranges, though blue red and purple are also very cool... Most treasured quality in other people probably a good sense of humor. Love cozy and funky things!

Love everything Italian, also the food, especially real Pizza made in Napoli at "Matheo's), though Thai and Indian cuisine follow close behind.

And I guess I would definitly have to go with the Nutella, though I wouldn't go building any cathedrals for it.....( just that I wouldn't even consider the other possibilities as food items...)

Well, that's me in a nutshell, gonna stop here, starting to feel like an exhibitionist.

Wanted to say hello and compliment you all on making this virtual space so informative, friendly and cozy! Very inviting, and as I gather, addicting!
