Hey all
i hope u'll all understand me when i say how the hell do i do 'huggies.' I've just come back from the clapham common meeting (awesome guys
) and someone there was telling me about how you sort of hug urself and do a trick behind ur back but they werent all that sure about uit themselves to be able to explain to me....like what tricks u can do, how to get into it and the general technique. Any useful tips or links to other websites would be great

hugs (the quick route to embracable joy):
1. cross your arms over each other so your left hand is on your right hand side and your right hand on your left hand side.
spin forwards circles (wheelplane).
2. keep your arms in the same position as step 1 but spin your poi in backwards circles instead.
3. now try to go from step 1 to step 2 by turn 180 degrees.
make sure when you turn around that you don't uncross your arms.
go from step 2 to step 1 by turning 180 degrees back again.
when you can do step 3 standing in wallplane, with just a beat in position 1 and a beat in position 2, you're spinning a hug.

coleman is wise in the ways of the hug! that does make sense.
Aim high and you'll know your limits, aim low and you'll never know how high you could have climbed.

not to mention that its quite tricky to 'pioneer' something that has been pretty much mastered already
hmmm, ceiling plane hugs then...
*hatches a simple but undeniably genius-like plan for a video next summer consisting entirely of 'horizontal hugs' (candidate for best move name ever?) performed by as many pretty girlies wearing vest tops as i can possibly find* cole. x

have a look at this picture beth...
apart from the fact it is a great photo, it has martha (taostar) spinning what looks like a btb hug
they are indeed horrible, but not quite as icky as straight jackets.

I admit I'm crap with 3d stuff, but that looks more like a butterfly thing to me than wheel plane (though originally I thought huggies were done out of the thread the needle, they're more fun that way!!)
but whatever it is, it looks like another one of those things you have to be incredibly flexible or skinny for, so I'll not try

hugs can be done with poi going same direction or opposite direction, by anyone i reckon.
they're just offset reels.
btb hugs are silly and always look uncomfortable unless you are both very skinny and bendy.
i've never seen sj's spun really clean, nor with with body movements that look like anything other than 'wild flailing'.
not saying they're rubbish - they're just not my thing

I think I can do bendy... maybe in 10 years time I'll be skinny enough if I stop eating now
