I'm new to the forum and I only started spinning about a month ago. I'm LOVING it. Uh...that is spinning. And the forum.

I'm using the template that was posted. Cuz I like the last question.

Name: Michelle (no fancy fire-related nickname yet. Heh.)

Location: Houston, Texas USA. But don't blame ME for that.

Hometown: ditto.

DOB: 10/18/73. Yup I'm an oldie.

Age: Well, you SHOULD be able to figure that out yourself, but 31, 32 next week.

Sex: Female

Occupation(s): Graphic designer and part-time fantasy artist

Favorite Food(s): Thai. Definitly Thai. Mmmmmm green curry....

Favorite Color(s): black and red. Plaid.

Toys: Some really great rubber practice poi I ordered from primal fire. And some that I made from some interior-decorating tassles (HUMONGO sized) and some ball-chain. I made them to go with my renaissance festival outfit and they actually spin pretty darn well.

(EDITED 2007: now have some kickin' glow-poi from Renegade, and a handful of staffs (staves?) and a few hula hoops. And a beautiful pair of fire-fans with no wicks. I tried to make some flags, but they're too big and heavy. And some Crystal Styx brand flower sticks. I am officially a skill-toy addict)

Uhm...other than that, mind your own beeswax.

Hobbies other than the obvious: Fantasy art. And in the past few months I have become sugar-glider obsessed, due to my three tiny boys.

Education: Associates degree in Visual Communications. Which translated to trade school for graphic design

Favorite Book(s): Just about anything by Terry Pratchett, and the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold.

Favorite Movie(s): Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Die Hard (how's that for disparity?)

Favorite TV show(s): House MD, Firefly, the Sharpe series, Boston Legal

Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up) I'd like to work graphic design for a while, keeping on the lower end of the totum pole so that I don't have to make it my entire life, then retire to do fantasy art and sell prints until I'm old and decrepit and THEN I'll sit on a rocking chair on my front porch, holding a shotgun over my knees and scaring the neighborhood children. See? I got it all worked out.

Favorite Music Artists/Composers: Al Stewart, Seven Nations, others that no one has heard of

Favorie ice cream flavor(s): pumpkin or honey. Thank goodness for modern ice cream!

Marmite, Vegemite, or Nutella?

NUTELLA all the way, bay-beee. No contest. Gotta have that hazelnutty goodness.

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Hello!
I've been making progress with the spinning (in no small part thanks to some of the great threads here!) and I've now got a delightful scattering of bruises all over myself. My favorite was the one in the dead center of my forehead two weeks ago. I'm seeing them as my badges of honor.

I'm particularly glad that I have FINALLY figured out the difference between the Mexican Wave and the Windmill.

I'm now addicted to making practice poi and poi accessories. I'm constantly in search of cheap blinky things, funky socks, chains, multitudes of sizes and shapes of quick-connect hardware, and have several times considered buying kites to rip up for the nylon to make tails.

I found myself spinning my shoes at a dart game the other night. There wasn't anything else there with strings.

And I saw a halloween decoration on someone's yard with an inflatable Frankenstein monster holding a spider on a thread in each hand.

TELL me he's not spinning poi. Go on TELL me!!!!!

My roommates are beginning to think I have a problem.

SO...After the intro thread I kind of dissapeared for a while. I had actually forgotten that I had an account here.

I've expanded and now play with both poi and staff - more staff lately. I also recently made myself a "cheap man's" meteor and picked up a set of fire fans - Which I have almost no idea what to do with, since they've forced me to the realization that I really can't dance. Whereas poi and staff had almost convinced me that maybe I could. Tricky toys!

I've also discovered that I'm gluten intolerant, so I'm stuck in a life without wheat. Pity me!

Just wanted to update and make a resolution to actually post occassionally here in the future.
