Today is my birthday.

Something of which I am feeling rather torn about. Today I am 22, and officially no longer a kid anymore So I suppose I shall have to go to the bar tonight and look at the situation through the bottom of a pint glass, perhaps it will look better in that light.
At the moment I am feeling really old, which I'm sure most of you will laugh at "Oh poor guy, turning 22, how horrid", but I still feel old..... and isn't birthday depression a GOd given right? anyway, I could use a few hugs, and possibly a bottle of Lilt and a cornish pasty.

Well, Happy Birthday, sweetheart!

Actually, 19 affected me far more than 18, and 22 affected me far more than 21 did. I went and got my first tattoo on my 22nd birthday... And, yeah, something about 22. You can't really say "well, i'm a kid" anymore. Feeling so damn grown-up. It's kind of hideous. If it's any comfort, i'm turning 37 next month and in many ways, the older i get the younger i feel. It seems to be related to "the more you know, the more you know how much there is yet to learn". I promise you will not run out of new experiences anytime soon. And hell, if you do, let me know and i'll give you some new ones...

We got the MikeZ in the house, woot!Glue the ham, hat baby!

I know what you mean - I turned 23 in July and suddenly felt really old, it also didn't help that about the same time, my company pension hit the year mark, so I can't trade it in for the cash anymore, meaning I have a pension for pretty much the rest of my life now - which really scares me.

Another problem is that since most of my friends my age are still at Uni, or moved away, I go out with people who are a fair bit younger than I am - one of my friends passed his driving test recently, whereas I've been driving for five and a half years. Others can only go to certain pubs because they know they can get in without Id, which they're about a year off getting. Stuff like this reminds me of how much older than them I am.

I suppose though, that you're only as old as you want to be - I'm constantly being told that I'm a very odd person to know, because in some respects I can be very sensible and adult about some things, while still being very immature and easily amused by others, finding the balance is the trick

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Balance. I don't 'feel' any age. Years ago I used to have the usual age crisis. However I've sinced realised age means more days have passed, and more days means more time with friends, more experiences, more meaning and realisation about myself and our world.

Oh and when that handsome English fraggle that everyone outside of New York City (and possibly Paris) loves stops being lazy you'll get one of your wishes.

Still not sure about sending plastic bottles in the mail though .. . .

Meh

Dom you star and angel!

Well said...

Funny this thread came up because in about six months (June) I will be 20 and that freaks me out so much officially not a teen anymore... I wish I could be 19 for the rest of my life sometimes but then realise what Dom has mentioned oh so well.

Much love and big hugs SickpuPpy

Happy Birthday dude! Don't be depressed, there are far too many people older than even ME (29!) who are still doing cool stuff... There are many perks to age. You don't do the stupid crap you used to do as a kid. You understand a whole lot more about the world. People don't bug/harass you as much and for some reason, treat you with more respect than they would a "kid". More job Experience/Stability = more time for play, and less to worry about (and sometimes more $). Your friends have cooler houses, more rooms, less depressing issues, play less stupid/childish mind games, etc...

Enjoy it!

[Not sure why the dig on NYC/Paris was necessary here so I won't touch it...]

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

I am going thru an 'age thing' I'm 26 and single.. happy that way don't get me wrong.. but everyone I meet these days are about 5-8 years younger than me.. I have met someone really nice recently - but there is a 6 year age gap (junior to me- so he needs to live his life and grow for now..) So I'm starting to feel very old.. but must get over it - there is someone out there for me.. but anyway I digress..

But Dom is right - more days, more fun, more friends!

SOOO HAPPY BURPDAY! ENJOY IT - you only live this time once..

So you are now a sick doggy, rather than a sick puppy?

Happy birthday (they start coming faster now).

Seriously, you'll learn that youth isn't about age, after all. I'm younger now at 25 than I was at 22. At 22, I was overweight, unhappy, and had no passions outside of academics.

At 25 I am fit and lean, happy, and I'm full of interests outside of my work, while still loving my work.
