Hi Everybody,

So, I've been quietly putting up some new videos on playpoi.com over the spring. Nothing as paramount as Dervishly Yers, but certainly fun. I've got schemes to make a video that will hopefully be on a whole new level, both artistically and production wise, but it's not so easy to come up with the money and time is it? rolleyes

Note: I've just today added "Unexpected Interview" when somebody said they had already seen all the new videos. It's got some lovely blacklight poi footage, but Camilla made it to mostly be about me. I was shy to release it until now.

https://playpoi.com/poivideos.htm

Maybe I'm posting this just because I need a hug. hug It's been a bit of a tough year, with having to come up with the studio rent each month. I'd had all these plans for making videos, etc., and it's gone very slowly.

Anyway, let me know what you think. I've got a few more surprises in the works.

Oh, and I'm in the UK from July 12th-27th, for Uberpoi and Falmouth. Then I'm travelling across Canada from mid August to mid september, and will be teaching workshops in a bunch of cities (it will be fun to share everything I learn at Uberpoi). If you're in the USA, you could come up to Toronto maybe? I've been barred from the states for teaching unauthorised poi workshops, so you have to come up to Canada.

Ok, pardon the rambling post.

Love and poi,

nick

Hi Nick,

two of your vids ('Dervishly Yers' and 'nick with fire2') are, IMO, amongst the very finest spinning movies to have graced the net.

Hope things pick up with the studio and that you get the success you deserve.

Thank you for the hugs!

I have to decide today whether I'm giving up the studio or keeping it into the fall. Having a studio is great. Paying for it is hard. I was totally unprepared. I'd love to say it's the craziest thing I have ever done, but I have actually done even crazier things. ubbloco

Really I want to be a student right now, not a teacher. I want to study Tai Chi and Yoga and practice by buns off. But I've found myself in the position of studio manager/business guy/teacher instead, trying to pay for things, and haven't had any time to study the things I want to study. Grrrrrrr!

....But I haven't given up! I have tricks up my sleeve!

Hee hee hee. I hope I get the surprise videos ready for next week. You're going to love them. I thought I'd get some feedback on the other new videos first though.

And on that note: I'm totally off topic. Did you guys check out the new videos?

Aw man. I was so excited when I saw this thread thinking there was something new but alas, Ive seen all that already. Of course they're lovely but your videos are sorta like crack and I just cant get enough of them smile I totally cant wait to see the upcoming stuff cuz Im sure itll be full of awe inspiring performance. I wish I could come visit you at any of your destinations but my schedule fot this summer is already pretty busy and I doubt Ill be able to make it out of the country this year. Big plans for next year though so lots of potential there. Maybe by then Ill have some fun up my sleeve for you as well. In any event, I hope you have a good time in your travels during the coming months. Good luck on your learning, I look forward to seeing you evolve even further.

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.

I've just made a link to a video that I didn't release before: Unexpected Interview. When I was in LA in February, my friend Camilla interviewed me about poi. She combined it with some very nice LED/Blacklight footage from the studio. I was a bit shy about releasing it until now... but what the heck. Check out Unexpected Interview and tell me what you think bounce2 bounce

Technically it was barred for working without a non-immigrant work visa. There is really no way to get permission to travel around teaching poi workshops. To get a visa I would need an American company to petition for me, and I'd have to tour as their employee. There may be other ways to do it, but it's difficult to research, and expensive if you have to call the US embassy or talk to an immigration lawyer.

"Barred for Teaching Unauthorized Poi Workshops" just has more of a ring to it. rolleyes

For a while I was thinking of playing it up, making an outlaw costume, complete with a little cape. I could be the... MASKED POI GUY! Only instead of Zeds I'd leave cross points. weavesmiley

...but I had a lot of pressing priorities upon my return to Canada, what with a commercial studio lease and suddenly no way to pay for it.

Should I post the full story?

One other thing. Any idea what codec you need for the latest vid? Winamp, WMP and DivX all don't want to know.

Cheers.

Weird, I thought I had them all...

:EDIT - works now. Figures.

The led poi spinning is different from what I'm normally used to, that's for sure. It's still ridiculously smooth with that light touch that reminds me of your fire spinning. If you want a complex analysis I can do one for you and send it via PM wink

Hi Nick-

First I must echo the praise alredy heaped upon you in this thread- your videos, especially dervishly yers, have been 'the bar' as far as flow and styl;e are concerned since I saw them over a year ago, and DY has been the video I show to non-spinners when I manage to get them sat in front of my PC - Thankyou smile

On your new vid- The first spin in so fluid that I cannot help but be jealous, the second spin with the glow trails is one of the best if ot the best spin I've seen committed to tape all year smile

Gutted I won't meet you at Falmouth- I've ended up stateside this year smile
