All right, so i need to check if I am just unlucky, incredibly stupid or if something is wrong with the search engine ...
every time i do a search to find an old topic I fail !!!

last time I was looking for that thread and I could not find it and then Valura found it for me ...

let me give you an example :
search words : "random list of likes and dislikes" (that's the exact title of my thread)
match all search terms
social discussion
Subject only
member number 320 (that's me)

all information being precisely right

result : O TOPIC

can anyone please tell me what I do wrong ? or tell me if that has ever happened to them before ???

or am I in " a circular vortex ...; spinning and spinning and spinning" (can anyone guess where this quote comes from ? )

Hi Cass,

I just did the search, exactly the same but without your user number and searched all forums and managed to find it :

here it is

Maybe you were just trying to give it too much info

Cass, what date range did you set?
It took me a while to find my intro thread last time I looked, just because it'd fallen so far back, the default date setting didn't cover it.

I think your thread was pretty old, so until Valura bumped it up again, it wouldn't be included in the default date range either.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I was using "any date" ...

Ok ... so too much info kills teh search ???

i set "any date" does taht not cover the entire board history ?
is it better to use "match all terms" or any of terms ????

I was just giving that one as an example ... but this happens to me all the time.
it'd be lovely to be able to do a search not by user Number, but by user name, but I remember asking Malcolm that a few months ago and he said it was not possible I think.

Anyway ... thanks for the help allthough I am not sure all my problems are solved.

PS : the quote was that awesome song by SHPONGLE of course

Actually, ignore that - I've just seen that the default date setting is 'Any Date', completely disproving my entire theory.

Cass,

I do the search with match all of the above terms and it even came up when I did the search just using the word dislikes

I am not sure why you are having problems but it does seem to be something to do with the user number. - If I add that in, it dosent come up with your thread

Hey sweetness,

Also keep in mind that the "social discussion" area is relatively new. I've always found that using the least criteria for doing searches is the best. Pick one word that you know is in there and won't be in any other strand... I'm sure "random likes dislikes" would have got you the same result looking in "all open forum" and "any date" and "any author"...

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
