I think that one reason is that the community is relatively young; if you went off to learn dance, or martial arts, you'd have a whole range of teachers who've been doing it for 5+ years, and I don't see the same level of developmental support in the twirling arts.

For the purpposes of my original question/topic, 'master' can be defined quite simply as: Some person who has been dedicated to a skill for at least several decades, could make a living at it, and generally amazes people. Period.
