Posted: OR you can get gspot codec from HERE u just use it to open the video you want to see, it will then tell you what codec you need to view it. (4cc) Then you can search the net for the codec OR go to Codec Corner and download the codec you need, install it and all problems fixed.

Posted: div-X encoder has a spotty record of being recognised in Virtuadub. I find that div-X decoders stall at a certain frame when a video encoded with a newer version of Div-X.

Posted: I used to spend ages installing all the divx, xvid, indeo, ogg, ac3
codecs, and a bunch of fiddly patches to stop things crashing, then
discovered the DefilerPak. It's the only codec pack you need, and is
easy to install. Lets you use things like PowerDVD, Winamp or
Windows Media Player to view things.
Some Div-X codecs have restrictions in them, I had one that would
only play the first 5 minutes of sound, so the 300 frame limit might be
another limit due to the codec you have installed.
Expect things to get really bad. New European software patents are
going to make it harder to get hold of free video software, as
companies will be able to charge for licences to encode and decode
their formats. ie. Start using XviD and OGG.
