well folkies, in the good old tradition of "my job/life is boring, I need something to do with my time" internet solutions,
I present to you "The hardest riddle available on the internet".

it is called not pron, and basically it's a combination of puzzles, riddles and a bit of computer knowledge:
it helps if you know some basics like 'URL' and 'source code'.
it has something like 90 levels, and the objective is to solve the riddle to get to the next level.
the official forum has a little too many spoilers on it for me, so I thought I'd start a thread here too.
on the start of my 3rd day, I'm in level 17 (16 was really hard) and I really don't consider myself a geek/nerd,
but I have made websites before, so that helped a lot.
their stats as of today are:
1508411 visitors have tried to solve the riddle since August 2004.
So far 173 people from 33 countries have completed it.
30 of them are women. The average age is 22 years.
have fun, appearently it might take weeks to finish, don't know if I will go that far.

Not! I took hints on the pron message boards for 77, 76, 74, 60, 57, 47, 45, 36, 32, 31, 26, 16, 8 and 7.
81 was actually one of the easier ones. It was 80 that had me going forever. I was sitting on the answer for the longest time.
The majority of them are a rehash of previous numbers with small twists so once you understand how they operate you can step through them. Some will take a good bit of time like 80, 76, 72, 63, 61, 48, 41, 24, 21 and 16.
Keep detailed notes of each level as you go, you will need them. Never be afraid of experimenting with crazy ideas because that's where you will find most of the clues. Whenever friends come over, I hit them up for ideas and chances are that another set of eyes with a different perspective will lead you to the answer.

no, everything in good fun, I wish I had friends dropping by to give pointers or different points of view, that always helps, especially for the levels where you just know what the answer is, but can't think of the synonym the maker is looking for (english is not my primary language).
I actually used the board on 7 and 14. and I looked at them after I solved the puzzles, just to see how stupid other people were on those.
I didn't have a crack at it now for 3 days, so tomorrow I'll get cracking again on level 21, that one with all the colours.

Ok, I have a question, does anyone who has a mac know how to do #8?? Cause I know what to do...I think but the reformatting hasn't been working at all...and it's driving me crazy. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it work.

That and not having a job at the moment are real assets here
Notpron makes a lot of assumptions about your system. It was designed for Windows, Internet Explorer and Photoshop. There are a handful of riddles where this becomes evident. #10, #20, #25, #38, #46, #61, #-6, #-14. I had to switch back to IE when Firefox refused to display some of the images.
You may also need a few other programs like a gif animator, .wav file editor and a simple music keyboard.

I found that problem too, like file conversion to wav
but I had no problems yet with firefox not showing pics. just not playing bgsounds, but I can see those in the source, so i notice it.
and most mac users know how to get around those microsoft problems anyway.

Stupid level 4 *grumble* authorisation required! DONT GIVE ME THAT!!!! i know its jsut trying to trick me and make me look stupid, i never was a riddle solving girl unless it involved sorting out some range of objects

Contemplating giving up on level four. I'm not awake enough to use my brain

eh. i'm from the country that the candy bar comes from and i still cheated. supposedly seeing that it looks like the name ends in "x" in the mirror helps, but I thought it was a T anyways.
then i promptly gave up. i don't have sound and i'm not going to convert and slow down audio to find passwords.
